That’s the headline from the Lexington Herald-Leader which reports:
FRANKFORT – Willie Nelson and his newly formed Teapot Party are backing independent candidate Gatewood Galbraith for governor of Kentucky.
The campaign of Lexington attorney Galbraith and his running mate, Frankfort political consultant Dea Riley, released a statement Monday quoting the country singer and songwriter as saying he is a “longtime friend” of Galbraith and believes Galbraith is “a good man and will do a good job.”
“We crossed Kentucky in a car that ran on hemp fuel one time when he ran for governor,” Nelson said.

Gatewood Galbraith has run for Governor or Attorney-General several times in the Democrat primary, and has run for Governor in 1999 and Congress in 2000 on the Reform Party ticket. This year he is running as an Independent and will probably be the highest profile Independent candidate in the USA in 2011.

@1 sounds like a plan. Hit ’em from all directions!
Hmm. I remember hearing rumblings that some of Rand Paul’s people were talking about drafting a “liberty candidate” for Governor of KY and running his campaign. Of course, that could mean anything from nothing more than a fiscal conservative who shies away from social issues, all the way to a true-blue drug-and-gambling-legalizing libertarian. I imagine it will be closer to the former, given the need to win the KYGOP primary (and general for that matter), but either way the presence of a Willie-endorsed single-issue legalization candidate would likely hurt that blue dog scumbag Beshear more than the Republican.
