The next two candidates for At Large that did not make the cut, according to my notes, were Brett Pojunis and last term’s Chair, Mark Hinkle. Pojunis is on the committee as a Regional Rep. UPDATE: Hinkle tied with Wes Wagner. The numbers according to a post by Joe Dehn on facebook, via Chuck Moulton: Pojunis 132, Wagner and Hinkle 126 each, Chris Thrasher 123, incumbent Rebecca Sink-Burris 111, Joe Buchman 109, incumbent Kevin Knedler 105, Robert Murphy 77, Roger Roots 62, Bette Rose-Ryan 61, former Region Rep Stewart Flood 40, Joshua Katz 35, Sam Sloan 13 and Mike Fellows 7.

All four officers were replaced. Of the 5 At Large reps, only Wayne Root survived the election, and went from first in votes in 2010 to fifth in 2012. Bill Redpath, who was Chair from 2006-2010 and Treasurer for most of the past term, unsuccessfully sought Vice Chair this time but did get elected At Large. The other three At Large reps are new (I’m not sure if Michael Cloud has been on the LNC before, but if he has it was multiple terms ago). Root and Redpath were endorsed by presidential candidate Gary Johnson, and were the only two of nine officers and At Large reps to return this time, although Redpath is no longer an officer and Root came close to also being off the committee altogether.

Most of the regional reps were returned, although some of the regions are completely different than last term.

Chair Neale and Vice Chair Wrights served in those same capacities in 2002-2004. Treasurer Tim Hagan was an alternate several terms ago, but has not been on the LNC in recent terms. He was one of the Nevada state and local officers who were replaced by allies of Wayne Root in the last couple of years. Ruth Bennett is a long time LP member, but has not been on the LNC in recent terms. None of the four winning officers were announced candidates for LNC offices before the convention.

Region 5 has a vacancy for Alternate. That is because the regional caucus picked Lee Wrights for that position, but he was later elected Vice Chair. Disclosure: at this time I am one of the candidates for this vacancy. The other one that I know of is my state chair, Mark Bodenhausen. The position will be filled by a vote of the state chairs of Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Louisiana.

    Easily.

    But only people who can keep from actually doing so should be on the LNC.

    It does seem counterproductive to change the region numbers.

    Today Geoffrey Neale of Texas was elected Chairman for the National Libertarian Party at its nominating convention in Las Vegas.

    Geoff Neale, a software architect, also served as Chairman for the party from 2002 to 2004. He served five terms on the Libertarian National Committee and is a former Chairman for the Libertarian Party of Texas.

    After both declared candidates Mark Hinkle and Mark Rutherford were eliminated due to high counts for None of the Above (NOTA), Neale won with 264 (62%) in the 6th round of balloting. None of the Above (NOTA) finished second with 159 votes (37%).

    “2012 may be the party’s best year ever. Through our Libertarian candidates, we’ll offer voters a real choice for small government, freedom, prosperity and peace,” said Neale.

    Lee Wrights of Texas, who finished second in the nomination for president and who declined to be nominated for the position of Chairman, was elected Vice Chairman.

    Tim Hagan of Nevada was elected Treasurer and Ruth Bennett of Arizona was elected Secretary. Five at large members were also elected: Bill Redpath of Virginia, Michael Cloud of Nevada, Starchild of California, Arvin Vohra of Maryland and Wayne Root of Nevada.

    And kudos to Emily Salvette for taking over as Chair of the Credentials Committee when its LNC-appointed chair, who has regularly been the SC state chair, failed to act.

    Thanks Jill.

    I am fine with whatever the chairs decide. If Mark has no medical issue I am fine with him being Alternate, and if the chairs choose me I will do my best to help John in any way I can. Mark says his medical problem is resolved.

    If Mark is the alternate, my original offer to John which started this conversation, to help with research and with LNC subcommittees that include non-LNC members, still stands.

    As far as the past history Mark is exactly correct. For quite a few years I never heard anything from our regional reps. Stewart Flood and Doug Craig were much more responsive than the people before them, and Bob Barr at least went to a lot of the state conventions. I hope that John and Mark or myself will be actively involved with helping the states and getting feedback.

    Barr filled a vacancy when Mark has a medical issue that caused him to fall asleep during meetings. Mark was also the abstaining vote on the credentials committee in the Oregon matter this year.

    John Jay Myers has told me he would like me to be his regional alternate for the LNC. As far as I know the replacement vote did not take place yet but someone correct me if I am wrong. I called Misssissippi Chair Danny Bedwell and he told me he would be fine with me being Alternate.

    I originally wrote John in response to the following memo from Marc Montoni

    OK, guys, this has gone on long enough. We need to start participating in the process. There are 200 members of this Radical Caucus group. Make it a point to start building your national LP resume: 1. Immediately contact your LNC regional rep, as well as all of the At-Large reps, and ask them what LNC subcommittees need volunteers. AND VOLUNTEER. 2. Find out the schedule of when the LNC will be appointing the convention committees, and start preparing whatever they require to get appointed to the committee. You all saw the horsesh** bylaws and platform reports. These “art of war” people have had their say and it’s time to cut in line in front of them. We need substantive bylaws changes — like a) eliminating the in-person meeting requirement and updating for the nineties and instead setting LNC meetings to be monthly or biweekly, very short (1 hour or less), and FREAKIN’ ONLINE — so you don’t have to take time from family for entire weekends, with all of the expense that requires; and 2) requiring all “executive session” motions to state the specific legal matter or personnel issue to be discussed (like my local county board does). It really, REALLY annoyed me that Redpath invoked Executive Session once again during that impromptu & unscheduled/non-noticed LNC meeting Saturday night. 3. Submit original articles & photos for LPNews. Be sure to include a photo of yourself to go with the story byline as well as photos related to the subject matter at hand (an outreach event you participated in, etc). 4. SHOW UP at LNC meetings. Volunteer to research items on which the LNC needs more information.

    I wrote

    I am CCing my region rep John Jay Myers and At Large Rep Starchild to see what LNC subcommittees need volunteers and to offer my services for that, as well as to research items with which the LNC may need more info.

    That offer is still open if Mark is the new alternate.

    John wrote me back saying he wanted me for alternate, which was not my idea.

    Mark wrote back:

    Are you going to be a paid petitioner, or give it up for the LNC? If you’re being paid by the LNC it would be a conflict of interest to sit in on say, a budget meeting and vote for a budget that would include your contract for petitioning. You would have to sit out most budget decisions as well as those involving ballot access and the like. Dunno who to ask just to be sure, maybe Carling?

    My response:

    Good question. I could recuse myself from any such votes, not that I expect to vote at all often if at all.

    The LNC does not vote on particular contractors, just on ballot access matters in general.

    Ballot access has to be done regardless of who does it.

    Other LNC members have been contractors for LNC/LPHQ.

    Examples that I know of:

    Brett Pojunis is the contractor for the new Saratoga database/IP project and is on the LNC; he was also on the LNC at the end of the last term when that was decided on. I believe Stewart was the contractor for some IT deal with the LNC at one point.

    I suspect that there is a high likelihood that Michael Cloud will be a contractor for fundraising and writing copy for LPHQ during his LNC term.

    I do not plan to stop petitioning for a living, and would follow all existing precedents at a minimum to avoid conflict of interest.

    I suspect those region numbers will be jiggled around before publication. The mid-Atlantic has been region 5 for many years.
