The Libertarian Action Super PAC sent the following email on September 26, 2012:
Dear Libertarian,
Please watch this video featuring former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura, asking you to help get Gary Johnson into the debates.
Call the Commission on Presidential Debates today at 202-872-1020. Tell them you want to see Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson in the televised debates!
Jesse Ventura’s rapid rise from distant third to winner as a third-party candidate in Minnesota is fascinating and inspiring!
After calling the Commission on Presidential Debates, please post a comment on the Youtube entry thanking Governor Ventura for helping with this video.
Please forward this email to your lists, and share the video on Facebook. Let’s get Gary Johnson into the debates!
Wes Benedict, the author of this post, is also President of LASPAC, and served as Executive Director of the Libertarian National Committee from 2009 through 2011.

Here is a listing of the moderators of the so-called “debates”: http://www.debates.org/index.php?page=2012-2 (with their email addresses).
I think it is worthwhile emailing each to say that participation in this scam diminishes their stature as journalists.

Anyone had luck with Southwest? It’s a hail mary, but driving home the point that a Gary Johnson would have made their life easier, and somehow convincing them to withdraw, could be a major victory.
Here’s a link to another video of YouTube looking at the Debate Commission. This one clocks in at just under 30 minutes but is well worth a view. There’s contact information at the end but I cannot say it’s current.

@25 How about a contact list / email addresses for the sponsors?
My email to the commission. Short and sweet.
In this critical election, we cannot afford to have only two voices, two candidates, two parties be heard! We need new ideas, bold ideas, fresh ideas. The Ron Paul Revolution, the Tea Party, the Occupy movement: these are all living proof that the voice of the people are NOT being represented by the ruling political class. America has spoken: enough is enough, and it’s time for a change. We, the American voting public, demand that Governor Gary Johnson be given the chance to make his case for human liberty.

Maybe the next video should be to contact the sponsors?
Try calling 214-792-4000 for Southwest Airlines.
Comments at youtube mention that in addition to YWCA, BBH NY has also withdrawn as a sponsor.
That’s 2 out of 10.
Contacting sponsors seems to have some effect.

Good advice!
Do it. Call the commission. They’re annoyed, but I finally got through to a real person. The call was short, the man was curt, but he had answered numerous calls already and had three more of the same on hold.
We should keep this up as long as possible. Call until you get a real person. Then get your friends, neighbors, family members and party members to call. Get different people to call and different phone numbers to call from.
Don’t stop until the debates have all concluded or the commission finally relents.
LOL. I’m sure that even if you somehow get through to a machine, or even a live operator, the chances that they will care who you are …less than zero.
Here is a short bit of that history “Some of the incumbent airlines of the time (Braniff, Aloha Airlines, United Airlines, Trans-Texas, and Continental Airlines) initiated legal action, and thus began a three-year legal battle to keep Air Southwest on the ground. Air Southwest eventually prevailed in the Texas Supreme Court, which ultimately upheld Air Southwest’s right to fly in Texas. The decision became final on December 7, 1970, when the U.S. Supreme Court declined to review the case without comment.” http://avstop.com/history/historyofairlines/southwest.html
People might want to remind the folks at Southwest Airlines that regulations once kept them out of a bunch of markets and that they had to fight for their share of the marketplace. I’m sure there are lot of stories in the financial section of the news about then.
People might also want to remind the netwits or networks that their ratings will be hirer if the debates include Gary Johnson.
Glad to hear that the YWCA has withdrawn their support of the CPD. Let’s get all of the CPD’s supporters to do the same!
Our voices will fall on deaf ears but annoying them by filling up their e-mail and voicemail boxes will be fun.
Glad to see that the YWCA has withdrawn their support. I hope we can get other organizations to follow their lead.
Glad to see that the YWCA withdrew their support.
Yes, hi. This is zapper. Yes, zapper.
I was wondering if you would include another candidate in your debate.
I’m sorry, ma’am. I can only tell you that I am zapper and that you should listen to me.
Please leave a nice message for real people to hear. It does seem that it is possible to get through. I have left a message to a real human in their personal mailbox.
Here’s how:
Call the number above. The phone will ring, a recording will answer and tell you to leave a message, then the mailbox will be full.
Next you will have options. Chose to go to an extension number (I think it was *8).
Now you need to guess an extension number. After some trial and error, I was able to leave a message (I think) using 112#. Other 11_ # extensions may work, and perhaps others 12_ # etc.
Give it a try. Leave a polite message. You might even get a real person to answer.

The best way to contact the Commission is to write them directly at [email protected]. This address was added to the Commission’s website on Wednesday, August 22, as a response to intense public pressure to accept electronic forms of communication.
It is unclear who at the Commission will read this message, however, or whether it will get read before the first Presidential Debate invitations are sent out, because most people simply receive an automated response reading, “Thank you for your comment. Although this account is monitored daily, we are unable to personally respond to all comments due to the large volume. We appreciate your interest.”
And, to the best of our knowledge, no one has ever received a personal response, of any kind whatsoever, when writing to this email address, regardless of the contents of the email.
Therefore we recommend you send a copy of your email to [email protected], in which case a printed copy will be hand delivered directly to the Commission’s Washington office. Of course it remains unclear whether anyone will read these written comments, but it does appear likely the Commission’s Executive Director, Janet Brown, and the Commission board members are more comfortable with paper based communication.
Unfortunately, unlike most non-profit tax-exempt organizations serving the public interest, the Commission on Presidential Debates has no Facebook page. As a temporary solution to this problem Help the CDP has created a Facebook group dedicated to accepting input for the Commission.
Search on Facebook for the group ‘Help the Commission on Presidential Debates do its job.’ Ask to be accepted as a member of the group (response times vary – please be patient). After you are a member you may post a comment on the group page. Your comment will be printed, placed in an envelope, and delivered by hand to the Commission’s office in Washington DC, usually on weekday afternoons.
If you join this Facebook group you will also be able to see what other people are saying to the Commission on Presidential Debates, and make comments on their posts. It is an excellent place for public discussion of the important issues facing the Commission.
If Ventura wouldn’t go off on rants of conspiracy and act as if he was the Governor of Nutballvania I think he could be a rock as a foundation for those great conversations of ballot access and choice.
He looked and sounded sane and strong. This is a great marketing tool. Good job.
Done.
Thanks for posting that list of sponsors!
could you make a similar post at BAN under the same Jesse Ventura you tube?

Dear Jason Melehani:
On behalf of the YWCA USA, I would like to thank you for your recent letter expressing concerns about the Commission on Presidential Debates and the YWCA’s sponsorship of the 2012 debates next month.
As a nonpartisan organization dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all, we have decided to withdraw our sponsorship effective immediately.
Again, we thank you for alerting us of your concerns and appreciate your support of the YWCA and our mission.

Excellent video!
I hope a new version can be made that also includes the CPD email address.
Also, other versions with Penn Jillette, Drew Carey, John Stossel, and so on.

Well, I called several times, was transferred by machine to a mailbox that was full.
So, I tried “0” for assistance and was transferred to a mailbox that was full.
Then I experimented with transfer extension numbers … try 2 digit numbers beginning with “0” … 07, 08 etc. But, was transferred to a mailbox that was full.
Fun anyway. I’ll try again later.
