PRESS RELEASE:
WILLIAMSON CAMPAIGN SUPPORTERS RECEIVE HARASSING PHONE CALLS
It is a desperate move

LOS ANGELES, CA- Marianne Williamson’s campaign supporters have been receiving harassing phone calls. Someone is playing dirty tricks to undermine Williamson’s run for Congress in California’s District 33. Voting is June 3.

The harassing phone calls appear to be from the office of the United Domestic Workers of America, AFSCME Local 3930 (“UDW”), an organization which represents the hard working caregivers who provide home care in our communities, as the UDW’s phone number is displayed on the recipient’s Caller ID display. However, UDW is not initiating the calls and apparently has been the victim of “Caller ID spoofing.” Caller ID spoofing is the practice of transmitting inaccurate caller ID information with the intent to defraud or cause harm. Caller ID spoofing is a federal crime.

The calls have been directed at known supporters of Marianne Williamson. Voters have received multiple calls, as frequently as 5 times per day over the course of the past 2 weeks. The caller asks if the voter is supporting Marianne Williamson, without providing any information about her whatsoever, and then abruptly hangs up. Voters who indicate support for Marianne are called repeatedly.

Here is one example of a call a Williamson supporter shared:
“My household has received daily calls from San Diego from a group called UDWA at 619-263-7254. After several weeks of twice daily (or more) calls, I called this number and left a voice mail instructing these people not to call my home any longer. This was on May 20. On May 21, I got two more calls, one at 8:30pm. On May 22, I received another call, which I finally answered and told the caller to stop calling me. I also reported this number to the Do Not Call complaint website.”

“This kind of harassment is an effort to undermine the Williamson campaign as we head into the final days before the June 3 election,” Ileana Wachtel, the Williamson campaign press secretary said. “We are actively working with UDW and various phone carriers to determine who is behind these harassing calls and encouraging whoever is behind them to immediately stop these dirty tricks. It is a shame that our democratic political process is littered with garbage like this,” she added.

UDW, which has not endorsed a candidate in California’s District 33, has also requested that the calls stop immediately. “On behalf of the members of UDW, we request that these calls stop immediately,” said Doug Moore, Executive Director of UDW.

    Unbelievable. Somebody’s playing dirty.

They certainly are! I saw a post here on IPR just earlier tonight about someone in California sending out deceptive “VOTE GREEN” mailers that backed Democrat candidates. Amazing what the two major parties will do, isn’t it?

As if anyone not a Democrat has any chance at all in California. 🙁

  4. Joshua Fauver Joshua Fauver Post author | May 29, 2014

Not having any chance at all isn’t enough for the Dems, they want others to receive no votes at all. Better yet they want no one else at all on the ballot.

At least one big gun from the Democratic party is supporting Marianne. I just got this in my email:

    “Dear Friend,

This coming Tuesday, June 3rd, in the Primary Election, the people of California’s 33rd Congressional District have a chance to make a ringing objection to the two-party cesspool of Washington, DC by sending Marianne Williamson to Congress as an independent.

If you have any time available in the next few days, upto and including Tuesday, the election day, I am URGING YOU to contact Marianne’s campaign at volunteer@marianneforcongress.com and/or call the campaign office at 424-293-2344. Marianne can win with a last minute push coming from our friends in southern California.

The election is close. Marianne has the vision, the courage, the practical life experience, the intelligence and the heart to be a great congresswoman. The next few days will tell. You have something to say about the outcome no matter where you live in southern California. Please get involved. Help her campaign to victory with your efforts and confirm what we all know – individual efforts such as yours can change the course of not just a district election, but can change the direction of the nation.

Please contact her campaign NOW and offer help.

    Love you!

    Dennis”

    That’s Dennis Kucinich

When I first read the headline I missed the “supporters” part and thought CLC must have took his act offline.

  7. Joshua Fauver Joshua Fauver May 29, 2014

That is hysterical Paulie! And Jill, Dennis and Elizabeth Kucinich have endorsed her, so has Congressman Alan Grayson, Jane Lynch, Eva Longoria, and several other big names!

  8. Jill Pyeatt Jill Pyeatt May 29, 2014

Well, Eva Longoria is also an Obama supporter, so that’s not a good endorsement, in my opinion. I do hope Ms. Williamson makes it through the primary, but I’m not very hopeful. She’s run the best campaign of all the candidates, from what I can tell, although I don’t live in her district. Apparently, the residents are being overwhelmed by mail from all the candidates (according to a news report on our local TV station.)

    LOL, Paulie!

We shall have to wait and see what happens I suppose. But I agree, from what I’ve observed she’s ran one heck of a campaign.

    Dirty tricks?

    In politics?

    Say it ain’t so.

  12. NewFederalist NewFederalist May 29, 2014

Perhaps she’s been “Touched By An Angel”! (Oh wait, that’s Martha)

  13. johnO johnO May 29, 2014

Why didn’t she run on the same banner as Cindy Sheehan. The Peace and Freedom Party. Or is her platform more centrist?

  14. paulie paulie June 5, 2014

I’m not aware of her calling herself a socialist. Sheehan does, as does P & F.
