Anderson says “good strong challenge” needed from alternative parties

rocky Former Salt Lake City mayor Rocky Anderson, who received 43,018 votes as the Justice Party presidential nominee in 2012, spoke with MintPress News about the need for alternative party presidential candidates in 2016.

Though Anderson said he will not run himself, he said, “We need a good strong challenge, not with the expectation necessarily that somebody’s going to win the election, but that they’re going to help change the course of the debate.”

Anderson “professed his support for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, but was disappointed that Sanders would be running as a Democrat rather than as a third-party candidate.” He said, “It really falls upon Jill Stein and the Green Party to do more to raise awareness, and do some long-term movement building.” MintPress called Stein “is the most consequential third-party candidate currently campaigning” for the presidency, saying “it is not clear” whether 2012 Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson will be running again.

Most of the MintPress article focuses on Stein and other left alternative party figures like Kshama Sawant of Socialist Alternative.

I think the advocates of the Justice Party wanted to position themselves as “centrist” or “moderate” alternative but when it came time to define their positions, they had a difficult time finding differences between them and the Green Party. Kind of a shame, since ordinary people are desperate for economic and political ‘justice’, as well as long-awaited ‘justice’ for the banksters behind 2008 and the war criminals responsible for the Iraq war (the ‘justice’ that Obama voters thought they would be getting back in 2008), “Justice Party” would be a good banner for a broad-based left populist formation..
