Bustle: Stein the candidate we “should be” talking about

steinThe online women’s magazine Bustle calls Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein “the 2016 candidate we’re not talking about — but should be,” saying that Stein “has pledged to eliminate poverty, bring full employment, and create an easy path to citizenship for immigrants,” and “believes in heath care as a right with Medicare for everyone, protection of human rights, and electoral reforms.”

Bustle writes that “like most third-party candidates throughout recent history, Stein is campaigning on the idea that the conflict of a two-party system is harming everyone. She represents herself as a left-wing alternative to the bickering of the Republicans and Democrats.” The magazine says it is “unlikely that Stein will take the election,” but “she still brings up a lot of important issues about which the Democratic and Republican candidates have remained relatively quiet.”

Stein “has pledged to eliminate poverty, bring full employment, and create an easy path to citizenship for immigrants,” and “believes in heath care as a right with Medicare for everyone, protection of human rights, and electoral reforms.”

Let’s see… eliminate poverty (let’s tax the rich!); bring full employment (let’s tax the rich and create lots of new government jobs!); easy path to citizenship (okay, that’s easy); health care as a right (so is food and water- see eliminate poverty above); protect human rights (like to health care, food, water, housing etc.- hey! let’s tax the rich!); electoral reforms (bong, bong, bong – folks we have a winner!)

I realize the bernie Sanders’ part of this story is not the right fit for IPR. But I think there will be more and more dissension within the national and state Green Parties, re supporting Bernie Sanders. Here are two articles.

This one is abt division within the Maine Greens over supporting Sanders.

And here is an article by Ted Glick, who has been a Left elctoral activist for decades, and who is North New Jersety GP chair, and why he is supporting Sanders and is urging the Green Party to do the dsame.

I’m not sure this is going todevelop into anything, but it is something for people interested in Left electoral politics to keep an eye on.

There is a 1200+ Socialists for Sanders page on FB. But that seems to be more of unaffiliated socialists, rather than members of any socialist political party or org.

I think that, like 2008 & 2012 with Ron Paul, whatever support the idea might have will be moot because Bernie Sanders won’t seek or accept the Green nomination, and will himself put the kibosh on any Green draft movement if it does start to gain steam.
