Mike Gravel corrects the record on Campaign Email urging voters to donate to Howie Hawkins

In an email sent by the campaign staff of former senator and 2020 Democratic Presidential Candidate Mike Gravel, Mike Gravel reportedly urged supporters to donate to the Howie Hawkins Presidential Campaign with the subject line “Mike Gravel Endorses Howie Hawkins for President”

Many individuals, including Green Party Presidential Candidate Sedinam Moyowasifa-Curry questioned the “endorsement”, due to the Greens still being in the middle of their primary but the Gravel campaign reassured that this decision was all Gravel’s.

In an effort to clear up the air the YouTube Channel Primo Nutmeg contacted Gravel for an interview where he stated the email was sent without his knowledge, but stated the staff is “free to endorse whoever they want as individuals”.

The Hawkins Campaign has removed any reference of the email from the campaign website and social media.

I’m sure he knows what goes on in his head at any given moment. How well he remembers it, I don’t know.

This kind of talk that Gravel is not a reliable source for what goes on in Gravel’s head strikes me as very weak. What Fernando Mercado is saying is a far more sensible.

Israel no longer really even “needs” that loot. They just take it because they can. But it’s a tiny portion of what they loot from their own citizens now. Israel has come a long way from the more socialist economy of past decades and has had a huge economic boom resulting in a much larger GDP and more tax loot for the Israeli regime.

Paulie said, “My impression of Gravel when I met him was that he was no longer all there, and that was 11 years ago.”

My impression of Gravel when I was with him for a few days was that he was all there, and that was ten years ago. He did forget his email password, though. …anyhow, great guy.

Because it is clear there is a divide between the Gravel Teens and Gravel himself, Gravel has stated in multiple interviews he would endorse Tulsi and Bernie. And he himself stated after he dropped out he would dual endorse them, but the teens made it seem like he was only endorsing Bernie.

I’d think the stuff Gravel himself verifiably said would be more credible than the stuff that people say he said.

Fernando, I think there’s room for confusion all around. Per NewFederalist, plus what I said, how do we know what Gravel’s memory is like?

Second, how do we know that outsiders, as well as Gravel non-campaign staff, aren’t pushing Gravel toward Gabbard? Related, per what I said, and per Gravel’s comments on camera, how much do we know about Gravel looking — or rather, NOT looking — at material from ANY candidate?

At this point, forgive me or don’t forgive me, I’d take anything from Gravel with a whole saltcellar.

Gravel stated ON camera he had no knowledge of the email vs one of the teens saying Gravel said so with no and we just have to take his word for it. Forgive me if I think the stuff on camera is more legitimate than a he said she said.

As you can see from this tweet from Mike Gravel’s staff member, Marlon Ettinger, Gravel had just forgotten when he was asked by Primo Nutmeg.

Here is what happened: Ettinger contacted the campaign. He suggested Gravel helping Hawkins by doing an email to his list. The Hawkins campaign was fine with that and we worked on a draft with him. Ettinger then took it to Gravel and a final draft was done. We waited for it to go out to Gravel’s list, once it did, we sent out the press release.

When there was confusion from the Primo Nutmeg interview, we took everything down. We see this as an internal matter for the Gravel campaign. We await to hear from them before we publish anything on the H2O website.

    N’yuk, N’yuk, N’yuk! 😉

He just got back from a weekend at Bernie’s.

The photo of former Senator Gravel used in this piece is unfortunate. He looks dead.

    In response to Paul:

First, since Gravel explicitly said he wasn’t running for president himself, JUST a spot on a debate, can we really call it a campaign? Not in my book.

Second, since Mike himself has some conspiracy theory bloodlines, I don’t doubt he prefers Tulsi himself. I have long called out the Tulsi Kool-Aid, starting with her Hindutva/Hindu fascist connections when she burst on the national scene three years ago.

Third, while we might quibble about the word “endorsement,” I think the Gravel email (yes, sent by staff, not himself) speaks for itself. OTOH, Zeese or somebody got the GP Twitter account to announce ONLY Hawkins’ official entry into the race. On the third hand, (and, per Idries Shah, any issue of importance has more than two sides), Hawkins has removed such references now.

Fourth, while we’re here on Gravel and Tulsi? She is NOT “the peace candidate.” Any Congresscritter who has voted more than once for Moar Nukes and more than once NOT to repeal the AUMF cannot be “the peace candidate.”

  14. Paul Paul September 15, 2019

    So, the endorsement thing…

Mike really liked Tulsi and wanted to endorse her from the beginning of his campaign, but the vast majority of his campaign supporters urged him to endorse Bernie, which he did.

The campaign while winding down suggested people donate to Howie to push for environmentalism, not vote for him. It was the Howie campaign that claimed an endorsement, not Gravel or the campaign committee. The message from the campaign was not even signed by Gravel.

This is just the Howie Hawkins campaign having the same low criteria for an “endorsement” as the Free Pony Express.

So, not for the first time, and not for the last, I’m sure, Gravel’s staff acts independently of Gravel himself. At some point, this becomes an issue of trust for both staff AND Gravel.

It also becomes an issue of, to riff on Joe Biden that, well, Mike Gravel is nearly 90 years old and what questions do we need to start asking?

Finally, this is all being filtered through Primo Nutmeg, or Primo Nutbar, who’s a diehard Tulsi backer and may have his own reasons to downplay support by Gravel for Howie, and certainly does on Gravel’s/Gravel’s staff for Bernie Sanders.
