On May 21, the Peace & Freedom Party of California executive committee said that it had surveyed the state central committee, and knows that a majority support Gloria La Riva for President and Leonard Peltier for vice-president. La Riva had won the party’s presidential primary on March 3.
La Riva is also involved with the Party for Socialism and Liberation and has run in every presidential election since 2008 as either PFP or PSL. Before that, she was the Workers World Party presidential candidate in 1992 and VP candidate in 1984, 1988, 1996, and 2000. She has also run for local, state and congressional office in California a number of times.
The Peace and Freedom Party has been around since the 1960s but in subsequent decades has maintained consistent ballot access only in California. The Party for Socialism and Liberation split from the Workers World Party in 2004.
Peltier is an American Indian Movement activist who has been imprisoned since 1976, serving two life sentences for murder while maintaining his innocence. He was the Peace and Freedom Party presidential candidate in 2004,
