Independent candidate Dr. Cornel West will appear on the Oregon state ballot after receiving the presidential nomination of the Oregon Progressive Party, as announced in a recent press release issued by the campaign earlier this week.
“It’s a profound honor to be listed on Oregon’s ballot for 2024 as part of the Oregon Progressive Party slate of candidates,” West said in a press release put out by the campaign on Wednesday. “I am deeply thankful to my Oregonian family for embracing this vision. Oregon, you are not just on the map, you are at the forefront of the struggle for truth and justice.”
The Oregon Progressive Party, in their statement about nominating West, emphasized that he embodies the principles the organization stands for, including “healthcare as a human right, free public education, environmental justice, and a peaceful approach to foreign policy.”
West was in Portland, Oregon, this past Sunday for a joint concert and campaign event. Besides Cornel West, the event featured several musicians, comedians, and local community figures. Public word of the endorsement came following the event. West’s campaign team has produced a live recording of part of the event, which can be viewed on his campaign’s YouTube account below:
The Oregon Progressive Party was originally founded in 2008, although under a different name. It was initially known as the Oregon Peace Party before officially changing its name one year later. In the 2020 presidential election cycle, the party selected Dario Hunter and Dawn Neptune Adams as its presidential ticket.
Oregon becomes the second state where the West campaign has qualified for ballot access, with West having previously received the nomination of the Aurora Party in Alaska late last year.
