Former Maine Libertarian Party Chair Shawn Levasseur Announces Candidacy for LNC Secretary Position

Former Libertarian Party of Maine Chair Shawn Levasseur announced on social media that he is seeking the Libertarian National Committee Secretary position at the national convention in Washington, D.C., next month.

In a post made on X on Tuesday, Levasseur announced his candidacy for the role of Libertarian National Committee Secretary and stated that he is in the process of creating a website for his campaign. “Okay, we’re past April Fools, it’s safe for me to announce now: I’m running to be the Libertarian National Committee Secretary,” Levasseur stated, “I’ll be posting more on my webpage soon: [website link].”

Levasseur currently serves as an elected member of the Knox County Budget Committee in Rockland, Maine. He has held leadership positions in the Libertarian Party of Maine, including as the party chair and treasurer. Additionally, Levasseur appeared on the ballot as a Libertarian in a 2015 special election to fill a vacancy in the Maine legislature.

Levasseur is the second announced candidate for secretary identified by Independent Political Report. He will compete against incumbent LNC Secretary Caryn Ann Harlos, who announced her intention to seek re-election late last year. Harlos, who has held various state and national positions within the party, was first elected secretary in 2018 and is currently serving her third term. According to an ongoing GoFundMe fundraiser organized by Harlos for her re-election campaign, she has raised over $4,000.

The Libertarian National Convention is scheduled for May 23 to May 26, 2024, at the Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C.
