Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Presidential Bid Received $2 Million Boost from VP Nominee Nicole Shanahan Following Selection

Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s presidential campaign received a $2,000,000 cash donation from his running mate, Nicole Shanahan. The financial boost came immediately following Shanahan’s selection in late March.

News of the financial support, initially discussed in a recent report by the New York Times, cites the campaign’s most recent FEC filings. The report states that the support from Shanahan came as Kennedy’s campaign faced mounting debts and increased expenses for ballot access, security, and consultants.

According to the filings, the campaign reported spending just under $4.5 million during March, including $326,000 to the Accelevate 2020 ballot access consulting company in Texas. It also listed nearly $1.6 million in debt to the Kennedy campaign’s security consultant, Gavin de Becker. Independent Political Report also notes that the Kennedy campaign paid $27,580 in March to Nicholas Brana, Chair of the People’s Party chair and former campaign manager for fellow 2024 independent presidential candidate Cornel West, for campaign consulting.

The donation from Shanahan, who Kennedy announced as his running mate in a California campaign event at the end of March, along with the campaign’s own ongoing fundraising efforts, generated almost a combined $5.4 million in donations for the month.

Shanahan’s March cash infusion was also not the first time she had spent a significant sum to assist Kennedy’s independent presidential campaign. Before becoming Kennedy’s running mate, she contributed $4,000,000 to the pro-Kennedy super PAC responsible for the Super Bowl ad that ran earlier this year.
