Libertarian National Committee Treasurer Introduces Motion to Rescind Convention Speaking Slots for Non-Libertarian Presidential Candidates

Libertarian National Committee Treasurer Todd Hagopian made a motion on Thursday evening to rescind speaking slots at the Libertarian National Convention offered to candidates seeking the presidential nomination of a party outside of the Libertarian Party.

The motion, which Hagopian made in the Libertarian National Committee’s public business list, would rescind Libertarian National Convention Speaking slots “offered to any declared candidates seeking the Presidential nomination of any U.S. Political Party other than the Libertarian Party.” It comes in response to a recent press release on the Libertarian National Convention website stating that Republican former President Donald Trump would address delegate concerns at the convention later this month and the associated response from party members.

Following the introduction of Hagopian’s motion, some members pushed back, either by signaling support for Trump’s inclusion or by directly criticizing Hagopian himself. Region 1 Representative Adam Haman shared a link to his blog, where he called inviting Trump “unequivocally good for the party, and the broader liberty movement.” At-Large Representative Adrian Malagon lambasted Hagopian for wasting the Committee’s time and referred to the motion as a “pathetic attempt at appeasing our lessers who do nothing but seek to destroy the efforts of others.”

Readers can access the complete thread on the business list.

Since the motion was introduced, three other members of the Libertarian National Committee have stepped forward to echo their support and formally second it. These members are Region 6 Representative Mark Tuniewicz, Region 7 Representative Beth Vest, and Region 3 Representative Dustin Nanna, who was requested to do so by several chairs in his region.

Seebeck explained that. I guess on another thread. Kennedy accepted informally. Details have apparently not been finalized.

Aside from insisting it’s solely up to her and the LNC can’t do anything about it, no doubt McArdle is withholding the details about the Secret Service stuff Robert notes because of how insane (and quite likely costly) it will be. And that might not be all. Typically they’d insist on preclearance checks on everybody in the room, submitting names and SSNs in advance. They do that for all his rallies. Good luck with that.

Also, still nothing from McArdle / LNC on RFK accepting her invitation.

It’s been five days since the appeal of the ruling of the chair was seconded, and yet there’s been no email ballot posted for it.

All excellent points, Mr. Kraus. I suspect you’re correct about all of them. I’m additionally wondering how the whole AV operation stands. I pay scant attention these days, but I remember quite recently reading on one of these fan chat boards – maybe this one, maybe not – that the AV contract was in the process of being approved. I

may have missed the follow-up announcement as to the conclusion of the vote. Maybe my memories of my misspent youth are not reliable, but isn’t that a bit close to convention time to approve major contracts? I could see a major snafu as a nontrivial probability outcome, particularly if the two of us (but apparently no one else here, at least no one speaking up) are correct about the headliner appearing via video – in my estimate, more likely canned than live – if he doesn’t pull the plug entirely.

I noticed you didn’t answer curiosities curious inquiry. Did you move to Florida and become an officer of the Liberal party, or is that a different Robert Kraus of Florida, or was Curious incorrect in his or her recollection that you were one of their board members recently, or were you one prior to making an even more recent decision to switch back to the libertarians?

Please forgive me if you’d rather not disclose what state you live in or the state of your party orientation. Just idle curiosity on my part, as well. But, for some silly reason, no better idea occurred to me of what to do on my phone as I’ve been sitting here on the toilet than to attempt to verify whether curious was remembering it correctly that there is or recently was a Robert Kraus of Florida on the Liberal Party USA national board.

It actually took me a couple of minutes of fruitless searches with Google and one or two other search engines for the party’s website. I was getting nothing but unrelated results, even after putting in USA and 2024. But then, I remembered back when I cared way too much about minor parties and looked on the politics1.com list of American political parties, and there it was. However, the board listing page was blank. Curious, indeed.

My curiosity hasn’t gone to the extent of using the way back archive or anything like that. And it’s about time to wipe. So, I think I’m done with this one, but I can’t speak for anyone else. Someone else could, conceivably, still be curious.

The reality is IF Trump shows up (& he will not) – they will need to clear the ballroom no later than 2 pm for an 8 pm speech. The way this works is the secret service & police make sure the space is cleared & locked down. They then do a full sweep removing any items left behind that would be considered “banned” by law or the rules of the Hilton for this type of event – the campaign then will do a full sweep as well to make sure the messaging is controlled – removing any anti-Trump signs as an example. So in this example it is likely business for the day will need to end by 1 pm. Keep in mind the room we are using maxes out at 1100 so very few extra tickets can be sold if all the delegates are present.

The alternative is the LNC paying for the use of the other ballroom at the Hilton. There will be considerable expense related to getting this space set up along with a/v. There’s no way the Trump campaign is paying for any related expense. So – in addition to about $100K in added security costs from the police & SS – there will be another $X amount related to the use of the other ballroom – if even available – & the set up of everything. On the other hand – this room can sit 2800+ classroom style. So the opportunity to recover some of these added expenses will exist. Business will still need to end early to allow folks to get in very long lines to enter the other ballroom as they’ll want to start clearing folks no later than 6 pm. The other option is a full list of individuals who might attend or purchased tickets is given the SS at least 24 hours in advance.

The bottom line is the LNC can be on the line for an additional $50-100k in net expenses – good thing they have that large line of credit! Oh wait……..

Mr. Kraus, are you not currently an officer of the Liberal Party? I’m pretty sure I saw your name on their list of officers, along with news that you moved to Florida. I apologize if I remember that incorrectly or if that’s just someone else who has the same name as you. I only ask because you seem to indicate you’ll be a delegate in DC. If I remember correctly that you switched to the Liberal Party, why do you want to be a delegate at your former party’s convention?

Conversely, someone might suggest that the Liberal party exists to troll the current L.P. Leadership, not to actually create a separate and distinct party. The L.P. itself began that way, vis a vis the GOP, if I remember my reading correctly. The proximate cause was Nixon imposing wage and price controls, and something about gold maybe.

Any expenses on behalf of Trump or incurred by the LNC because of Trump’s appearance must be reported as a “donation in kind” – that literally means the LNC is making a contribution that benefits a candidate of another party.

If you do NOT now think that violates the bylaws & that the spending does not violate the Policy Manual – then please share with everyone whatever it is you’re smoking.

The fact is this was not done in an appropriate fashion. The LNC should vote on this regardless so we know where each & every one of them stands on this – which will allow us to make an informed decision as delegates in DC. The Chair should resign immediately & drop out of the race. The folks who have sued the LP on behalf of Membership should include these actions in their complaint.

To Jefferson Caucus of the Constitution Party… for those of us that don’t do Facebook is there a website that you can direct interested persons to? Thanks.

I agree with my mental health counsel’s assessment of my mental condition. However, Gene Berkman misgendered me. I’m nonbinary.

Saying Haman is relatively polite isn’t the same as saying he is correct..and I did say relatively. To his point that the LP is finally relevant and getting major media attention: I’ve been channel surfing the three major bloviating tv networks for several hours, except for an hour of Bill Maher, and scrolled all the way down the Google news tab on my phone several times today. Of course, there was plenty about Trump and the untifada. And, Fox had dancing robot dogs, in place of their usual 24/7 coverage of the Mexico U.S. border, recently replaced by college Hamas larpers. Not a single mention of libertarians and lpcon anywhere.

I may be crazy, but I would have remembered it had there been any. Maybe it was just my luck, and it dominated coverage on Fox while I surfed to XiNN or msmbs and vice versa. But in reality, I doubt that highly.

Reality is crazier than ever. With or without scare quotes.

  12. Gene Berkman May 3, 2024

Can we get a report on his current condition from “Reality’s” mental health counselor?

  13. Porcus Agricola May 3, 2024

Grading recess banter on a curve: “Your entire existence demeans everyone who has to deal with you” is the current zinger champ. Mommy, he’s being MEAN is runner up. The suggestion that anyone who brings up a losing motion is inconsiderate of the time and MENTAL CONDITION of fellow committee members has to get bronze medal, as I see it.

Gentlemen and ladies, you are all out of order, and quite profoundly so.

I’d put cosplay of iq above 70 and stay in the shire after 2nd breakfast in 4th and 5th; you don’t know what rich is and I’m a millionaire 6th and 7th. There is still time for mother and genitalia jokes etc. Over/under drinking game?

    Hi Darryl,

We’re waiting to hear from our host about correcting the right-click function. I assume it’s related to the enhanced security restrictions from February’s bot issue. Regardless, I’ll see about having links open externally moving forward.

Request (no need to publish this):
If right-click is going to be disabled, can you please set outside links to open in a new tab?

Can we also get live action reports from the children, grandchildren or other relatives of requisite age of LNC Officials recess time school playgrounds? Inquiring minds want to know what names they call each other and each other’s mothers.
