On Thursday, NSSN News hosted a forum for candidates running in New York’s 15th Congressional District. The forum addressed several topics related to crime, immigration, and foreign policy.
The attending candidates were Gonzalo Duran, representing the Republican and Conservative parties, and Independent Jose Vega. Incumbent Representative Ritchie Torres was also invited but did not respond to multiple invitations.
The forum took place a week after Independent candidate Jose Vega collected over 11,000 signatures in a bid to get on the ballot, far exceeding the required 3,500 for Independent congressional candidates in New York. Jose Vega is an independent candidate known for his grassroots efforts and community engagement. Gonzalo Duran, the Republican and Conservative Party candidate, is part of the Bronx Conservative Party, a third party in New York State.
