Pirate National Committee Votes to Recognize Florida State Affiliate

The Pirate National Committee met over the weekend, during which party leadership voted to formally recognize the Florida Pirate Party as the organization’s newest state affiliate.

The Pirate Party announced the news of the newly recognized affiliate on Monday, with a voting meeting taking place the night before. Earlier this month, members met in Bensenville, Illinois, for the party’s 2024 national convention, where they discussed adopting Florida and West Virginia as potential new affiliates and formally selected Vermin Supreme as the party’s 2024 presidential nominee.

According to information from the party’s private wiki, the Pirate Party previously had a Florida affiliate in the last decade. However, the Pirate Party International indicates that the Florida party was considered inactive and dissolved in 2019.

In response to a request for further information on social media about the next steps for the state organization, the Florida Pirate Party clarified that it has not filed official paperwork to organize as a minor party with the state at this time. The affiliate also added that its members won’t be pursuing ballot access while they continue to focus on growing as a party. To that end, it’s recruiting supporters over platforms like discord to help organize further.

With the addition of the Florida Pirate Party, the national party indicates that it now has seven active voting state members. Not every state with a Pirate Party is an active member of the Pirate National Committee, with some only holding observer status. There are also affiliates that accommodate multiple regions, such as the DMV Pirate Party for Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., and the Chicagoland Pirate Party, which, while technically associated with the Illinois affiliate, also serves as the recognized branch for members in Kenosha County in Wisconsin and Lake and Porter Counties in Indiana.

But seriously, if they are not going to seek ballot status, they might benefit from the idea that I recommended on the post of the Solidarity Party: Ask Secretaries of each state to provide them, and any other write-in candidates, with a unique numerical write-in code to be used in the write-in space, instead of candidate names, on the ballots

“it’s recruiting supporters over platforms like discord to help organize further”
I believe the traditional way of recruiting would be freeing press-ganged or underpaid sailors from navy vessels, freeing slaves from slave-ships, encouraging a culture of mutinies, and offloading loot to destabilize local economies thereby giving the locals an unrealistic view of how well piracy pays and making them financially desperate enough to sign up. I wonder how many people on “platforms like discord” wisely respond that there is no point in joining a political party that isn’t even trying to pursue ballot access.

    Argh!
Hoist the mainsail and anchors away.
(Rumor is there are sunken Spanish treasurer ships off the Florida coast. But, if you find any treasure, Spain and Peru will put in claims.)

    LOL.

In other words, they exist solely online.

    Ahoy!
