The Liberal Party USA announced this week that it has expanded to Oklahoma, recognizing the Oklahoma Freedom Party as its newest affiliate. This marks the party’s tenth state affiliate to date.
The announcement was made over social media on Thursday, though no details were provided about who is involved with the Oklahoma Freedom Party. Independent Political Report has not yet identified any social media presence for the new affiliate and has reached out for further details. While the Oklahoma Freedom Party is not yet listed among the official state affiliates on the Liberal Party USA’s website, its map of active state affiliates has been updated to reflect Oklahoma.
According to the Oklahoma Board of Elections, organizers seeking to establish a new political party in the state must file a notice of intent with the State Election Board either before March 1 or after November 15, at least as it relates to even-numbered years. After submitting the notice, organizers are then required to gather signatures amounting to at least three percent of the total votes cast in the state’s most recent gubernatorial election.
The Liberal Party USA now has ten affiliates, including those in Massachusetts, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Missouri, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, Oregon, and Oklahoma. While most affiliates have yet to secure ballot access, the party is fielding a presidential ticket on the New Mexico ballot.
The Liberal Party has been a wild ride. From being founded because the far-left “Libertarian” Party still wasn’t far enough left for them, to nominating a presidential ticket to the right of the “Libertarian” Party’s ticket. Adding six state affiliates in seven months, but at the same time not getting on the ballot in more than two states, both of which were founding members. At this rate, by 2028 they will have either supplanted the splintering “Libertarian” Party, or disintegrated themselves too.
