American Capitalist Party Launches Inaugural Political Campaign, Deregulation Subcommittee

The American Capitalist Party is launching its first-ever electoral campaign. The party also announced the formation of a Deregulation Subcommittee focused on advocating for free market alternatives to restrictions on currently illicit substances.

Both announcements were shared this week in the party’s May newsletter. According to earlier statements, the American Capitalist Party had been working with two prospective candidates seeking city council seats in Alabama and Colorado. While the party did not provide specifics at the time, it said it was helping both establish campaign finance committees and develop strategy.

This week, the party moved forward with its plans by announcing support for national party treasurer Alan Thomas, who is running for a seat on the Argo City Council in Alabama. The city is scheduled to hold its municipal elections on August 26, and all positions on its council are nonpartisan. As part of the campaign rollout, the party also said that it’s selling branded merchandise promoting Thomas’ inaugural candidacy, with proceeds directly benefiting the national organization.

Meanwhile, the new Deregulation Subcommittee was formed in collaboration with DeSchedule.Earth, a group working to fully repeal and deschedule cannabis from the Controlled Substances Act of 1970. According to details, the subcommittee will research free market policy changes while monitoring relevant legislation on a state-by-state basis. The party said it will share updates through its website and social media channels.

The American Capitalist Party formally launched during this year’s LibertyCon International in Washington, D.C. While the group had been in development for some time with an established platform, it did not formally organize as a proper party until this past February.
