Former PSL Presidential Nominee to Keynote Women’s Socialism Conference in Texas

Local members of the Party for Socialism and Liberation will host a Women’s Socialism Conference in San Antonio this May, with former 2024 presidential nominee Claudia De la Cruz scheduled to deliver the keynote address.

The national party announced last week that its San Antonio chapter will host the event, marking the first time that its Women’s Socialism Conference has been held in the city. The party regularly organizes similar conferences across the country, with its first this year taking place in Chicago in March. That event featured 2024 vice presidential nominee Karina Garcia as keynote speaker.

“This conference is an opportunity to bring women (and others!) from around the city together to not only collectively analyze the hardships that women face under capitalism but also chart a path forward to change these conditions with the bright vision of a socialist future,” the party stated.

De la Cruz confirmed her participation in a separate post on social media Thursday, saying she would address the San Antonio conference as keynote speaker. De la Cruz is a community organizer and theologian who was the party’s 2024 presidential nominee. She has been on a nationwide speaking tour since the beginning of the year.

While a full agenda has not yet been released, the party states the event will feature panels and discussions on a range of issues. While not confirmed as topics, it references recent cuts to federal programs such as SNAP, Social Security, and Medicaid, addressing the role of women in historical and contemporary liberation movements, and “endless wars and mass deportations.”

According to event details, the conference is scheduled for May 12 at Palm Heights United Methodist Church. The local chapter is accepting small donations to help cover event costs but states that no one will be turned away due to lack of funds.
