A politically motivated attack in Boulder on Sunday that led to the hospitalization of eight people has prompted statements from several of Colorado’s recognized political parties. As part of our focus, Independent Political Report has collected those statements made by state-recognized minor parties or their leadership.
On Sunday afternoon, a man reportedly possessing a blowtorch and more than a dozen other incendiary devices attacked demonstrators in Colorado who were calling for the release of Israeli hostages in Gaza. Authorities say the man, Mohamed Sabry Soliman, told them he had been planning the attack for over a year with the intent to “kill all Zionist people.” Eight individuals were injured during the attack, and on Monday, a judge charged Soliman with a federal hate crime.
Following the shooting, several of Colorado’s state-recognized political parties issued formal responses. These included the state’s two major parties, the Colorado Democratic Party, which released a statement, and the Colorado Republican Party, which reshared comments from various elected officials and party leaders, as well as several of Colorado’s recognized minor parties. Those statements are presented below:
Chair Hannah Goodman of the Libertarian Party of Colorado made a statement from her official account condemning the shooting not long after it occurred. Her statement was later reshared by the state party.
As Chairwoman of the Libertarian Party of Colorado, I condemn the horrific Boulder attack today. We’re the only party whose members pledge the Non-Aggression Principle, rejecting violence. We call on all sides of the political spectrum to cease violent actions and agree we should never use violence for political ends.
The Green Party of Colorado issued a statement on social media the same evening, writing:
The Green Party of Colorado unequivocally denounces the violence and act of terror that we witnessed today in Boulder. Now, more than ever, we must unite to confront and reject hatred in all its forms. Our thoughts are with the victims and the people of Boulder.
IPR is unaware of the Colorado Forward Party making a direct statement; however, founding co-chair Andrew Yang shared the following over social media, which was later reshared by the national organization:
The attack in Boulder is awful and hateful—thank you to law enforcement for responding and hope that the perpetrator is prosecuted and brought to justice. People should be able to gather peacefully without fear of harm. 🙏🇺🇸
IPR could not find statements from any additional political organizations as of this article. Readers are invited to share any such statements from groups not listed above in the comments.
