The Libertarian National Committee has appointed Adrian F Malagon and Kathy Yeniscavich to its newly created Financial Standards Committee, which it established at its May meeting. Treasurer Bill Redpath will also serve on the committee as an ex-officio member.
Last month, the LNC approved the creation of the Financial Standards Committee to evaluate the necessity, practicality, and feasibility of spending in relation to the Libertarian Party’s current financial condition. The committee will review all new expenditures totaling over $600 per year before execution, excluding those from the chair’s discretionary fund. It will also be available to the LNC and party staff to discuss motions under consideration and will conduct regular reviews of party financial records, focusing on cash disbursements, payees, and overall adherence to the LNC’s financial policies.
A motion to elect the two LNC members to the committee was introduced earlier this month by Chair Steven Nekhaila, with a ballot officially opened last week. Nekhaila noted that members had the option to vote for None of the Above or submit write-in candidates. A simple majority vote was required for approval.
The ballot closed Tuesday night, with results published on the LNC’s vote tracker showing that At-large members Malagon and Yeniscavich were elected with the support of ten members each. Redpath was named to the committee by default. Other candidates who received votes included Region 1 Representative Aron Lam and Region 5 Alternate Paul Bracco, each receiving three write-in votes.
At-large member Andrew Watkins also cast a vote for the Libertarian Party’s 2024 presidential ticket of Chase Oliver and Mike ter Maat. However, the vote was ruled “illegal” under Robert’s Rules of Order Revised, and Watkins chose not to submit an alternative option.
