The Green National Committee has approved four new forum managers who will be responsible for overseeing communications on the organization’s discussion list and helping enforce its internal protocols.
In four separate motions first introduced last month for discussion, the national committee considered prospective nominees to fill its forum manager seats, a role defined in the party’s governing rules as a five-member team responsible for enforcing communication protocols and facilitating discussion. All four individuals were put forward by the Green Party’s Steering Committee.
According to the rules, forum managers are responsible for applying communication procedures and policy, addressing member complaints, and working with delegates in “constructive, neutral, and effective ways.” Managers serve two-year terms, must not all be of the same gender, and may be nominated from state parties, caucuses, or the national committee itself.
All four motions advanced to a vote at the start of the month, with ballots officially closing on December 8. Each nominee required a simple majority for approval, though final vote totals varied significantly across the four races. Delegates ultimately elected Shannel Pittman of the Lavender Caucus, Samuel Chance of the Young EcoSocialists Caucus, Allan Hunter of the Green Party of New York, and Richard Giovanoni of the Illinois Green Party.
| Nominee | “Yes” Votes | “No” Votes | Abstentions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shannel Pittman | 73 | 8 | 1 |
| Samuel Chance | 51 | 21 | 9 |
| Allan Hunter | 68 | 1 | 9 |
| Richard Giovanoni | 66 | 4 | 9 |
Pittman, Chance, and Giovanoni are returning to the position after previously winning two-year terms during the last forum manager vote in late 2023. While party rules specify a five-member team, the committee has not always voted to fill every position. At that time, the national committee filled only three of the five available seats, leaving two vacancies.
