The Forward Party has announced two more endorsements ahead of November, backing Democratic U.S. House candidates Dani Sterbinsky in Arizona and Caitlin Rourk in Texas. The national party has now endorsed nine candidates this month alone.
The Forward Party announced the endorsements Tuesday, supporting Sterbinsky in Arizona’s 9th Congressional District and Rourk in Texas’ 10th District. Both candidates are military veterans and, according to the party, sought out its endorsement because they believe governing should focus on solving problems and serving constituents rather than partisan interests.
“Dani Sterbinsky and Caitlin Rourk are Democrats who chose to ask for Forward’s support because they want to put their constituents ahead of their party,” Forward Party CEO Lindsey Drath said. “Both have served their country in uniform and both are running on a promise to solve problems, representing the people who send them to Washington.
According to the Forward Party, Sterbinsky is a Navy veteran and registered Democrat who serves on the Personnel Appeals Board in Surprise, Arizona, as well as a precinct committee member in her legislative district. Her campaign has focused in part on affordability and representation for rural communities, and the Forward Party claims she does not accept PAC money. Sterbinsky won the Democratic nomination earlier this year and will challenge Republican incumbent Paul Gosar in November.
Rourk, meanwhile, is an Army officer whose background includes work in public policy and the private sector. The party said her campaign has focused on economic issues, healthcare costs, foreign policy, and government accountability. She will face Republican nominee Chris Gober.
Drath added that each candidate is facing “partisan extremists” in their respective races, with their candidacies providing voters an option “rooted in the original fundamentals of governance for the people and by the people, not for a party.”
The endorsements are the latest in a series announced by the Forward Party this month. The Forward Party endorsed Democratic Florida gubernatorial nominee and former early Forward Party leader David Jolly on October 5, praising his approach to state issues and unique political evolution.
It followed that up the next day by announcing its support for a slate of six congressional candidates across Florida, Idaho, and New Hampshire. Those six included five independents and one candidate running under the Forward Party line.
The national party called its support of Sterbinsky and Rourk another reflection of its approach to a cross-partisan candidate strategy. It also said it falls under what it has been calling its “Fulcrum Strategy,” through which it hopes to elect a bloc of lawmakers willing to act independently of party leadership on major votes.
