Independence Party member Steven Wilson has announced his candidacy for Congress in Minnesota’s first congressional district:
ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC-DT) — Another candidate is throwing his hat into the ring for U.S. Congress.
Seven Wilson is with the Independence Party of Minnesota and hopes to someday represent the First Congressional District.
Wilson says he’s a conservative Independent and will not be influenced by major party politics in Washington, D.C., especially when it comes to tackling our rising debt.
“It’s not a numbers issue or a policy issue,” says Steven Wilson. “It’s a people issue. The fact is, people from the two major parties in Washington can’t get along.”
Wilson says he will also not be swayed by special interest groups, but will only take donations from individuals in the campaign.
The first congressional district encompasses the southern portion of the state, and is currently represented by Democrat Tim Walz.

Jason,
Just to clarify, the Supreme Court ruling does not affect the donation limit by corporations. In fact, there will not be any increase in “corporate donations” in any campaign because there’s still a legal limit.
What the Supreme Court ruling does do is allow for corporations to spend money advocating for candidates on their own time with their own editorial control. It seems like a trivial distinction, but it’s actually very very important.
From Minnesota here. Please note that the IP candidate is an “independent conservative.”
Which is what the IP has become in Minnesota. Moderate Republicans. That is why progressives left them and joined up with the MN OP
just for the record
Only take money from individuals? Well, thanks to the Supreme Court, his voice’ll be drowned out for sure by corporate donations.
