The Boston Herald reports that Independent Tim Cahill’s campaign for governor in Massachusetts has enlisted the help of former McCain campaign strategists:
Treasurer Timothy P. Cahill has tapped the same GOP muscle to steer his independent race for governor that engineered U.S. Sen. John McCain’s groundbreaking political ascent, as the Quincy pol guns for a Scott Brown-style upset. A team of veteran national strategists helmed by McCain’s longtime consultant John Weaver will focus on crafting Cahill as a blue-collar fiscal conservative.
“He’s the only one of the three (gubernatorial candidates) that can relate to the everyman voter that is so vital to Massachusetts politics,” said Weaver, who was the architect behind McCain’s Bay State win in 2000. . . .
Weaver brings an army of GOP heavyweights to focus on Cahill’s message and ground game, including McCain’s former chief of staff, Mark Salter; his former deputy political director during his 2008 presidential race, John Yob; and Michael Dennehy, a Bay State native who was McCain’s senior political adviser during the ’08 campaign.
