Michigan’s Troy Eccentric reports, “Jack Kevorkian’s strategy for getting elected to Congress may be unique in American politics. ‘Don’t register and don’t vote,’ he told a group of about a dozen persons who came to hear him speak Thursday evening at the Troy Community Center. So if no one registers or votes, how will he get elected? The response wasn’t clear, but Kevorkian was trying to make a point that the party system has poisoned American politics. ‘Parties are like religious sects,’ he said. ‘You say and do what they tell you.’â€
Kevorkian is running for the state’s Ninth District U.S. House seat as an independent, basing his “political philosophy on the Ninth Amendment of the Constitution, which basically says that just because certain rights are specifically listed in the Constitution doesn’t mean the people don’t have other rights. For Kevorkian, that means just about everything.†In addition to a Democrat and a Republican, Libertarian Adam Goodman is also in the race.
I have to say I really like his cynical approach to this campaign. It will be interesting to see how badly he performs because he’s not proposing some new state-funded entitlement for assisted suicide.
I’m not sure abt Dr. Kervorkian’s current project. But, his role in bringing physician assisted suicide into the public discourse has been invaluable, imo.

Interesting fact: Michigan requires 3,000 valid signatures for independent candidates. Kevorkian turned in 2,000+ but no one seems to have noticed, and it looks like his place on the ballot has been accepted.
