BAN: Los Angeles Times Story on Candidates Who Placed Second in June 2014 Primary Via Write-in Votes

Posted at :

The Los Angeles Times has this story about the California write-in candidates who placed second in the June 2014 primary. In all cases, a write-in candidate only placed second when only one candidate had filed to be on the June ballot for that office. The only three minor party candidates who will be on the California general election ballot this year were write-ins who ran in such races. They include one Peace & Freedom candidate for U.S. House, one Libertarian for Assembly, and one American Independent Party member for Assembly.

The referenced LA Times article, by Jean Merl, notes that

In the two state election cycles in which the new system has been used, it has produced several fall races pitting members of the same party against each other

And

The new system also prohibits any write-ins in the general election.

Given that the LP has one assembly candidate in the real election in the whole state, is there any effort to coordinate statewide on behalf of that race?
