Statement from Steve Kerbel:
This weekend I will travel across the country to participate in the Presidential Debate at the LP Massachusetts convention. I am excited to participate in this event, and to discuss important issues with other candidates. Unlike similar events in the Republican Party or the Democratic Party, Libertarian candidates have a common goal.. to advance the cause of Liberty. I am honored to be part of this process.
Statement from Darryl Perry:
I’m looking forward to participating in the first what will hopefully be several debates between LP Presidential candidates. This event is really a service to Party members who will, for the first time in the 2016 campaign season, see several of the would-be Presidential nominees share a stage; and hopefully this debate will show that while we all share a goal of more liberty, where we differ on issues and the ways we approach solutions.
If any other candidate provides a statement, this article will be updated.

I keep forgetting to watch the video again….I missed a lot the first time.
Woops, wrong thread. That was obviously intended for the Invictus/Okyay discussion.
@paulie
If you email the comments you’d think merit inclusion, I’ll post it with a brief explanation that she worked for the GOP candidate for NY Gov in 2010. I think that fact, which we do have confirmed, is interesting enough on its own.
I’m surprised if Chuck has not run into other libertarians who are personally morally opposed to abortion (or whatever else) but don’t think it should be outlawed. Seems like a pretty common position among libertarians I met, and near universal when you extend it beyond just abortion to various other things that various people personally consider to be immoral.
to answer the question about my personal views on abortion (disapproving of it morally, trying to convince others that it is immoral, ostracizing anyone who is involved with it, etc):
If I were to get a woman pregnant, and she asked my thoughts on what to do with the child; I would not suggest abortion as an option and would try to dissuade her from that choice; however I would not use force or threats of force to prevent that from happening. I also do not believe that anyone, especially governments, has the right to use force or threats of force to prevent an abortion.
Further, I don’t want any tax dollars being spent to fund any death be it from abortion, war, death penalty, etc. I hope that clears up the questions about my stance.
Someone can be personally against abortion, as in disapproving of it morally, trying to convince others that it is immoral, ostracizing anyone who is involved with it, etc., yet be pro-choice in the sense of opposing government prohibition. Darryl did not go into whether he is personally OK with abortion – say with any woman he is with or members of his family or anyone who cares about his views – unless I missed it, he just said he does not believe government should fund either side or prohibit it.

You just said he was pro-choice. Now you say he might be anti-abortion? I don’t understand.
By “personally” do you mean he wouldn’t abort a fetus if it were his personal decision? If that’s what you meant, then I’m still confused. Granted, I haven’t been following the news the last couple days… can men now become pregnant? I assumed that was still not the case, but sometimes SCIENCE surprises me.
He may still be anti-abortion personally. He said he does not want government to fund either side.
I stopped getting email notifications on this… don’t know why
Will need to watch the debate later.

That is surprising!
Perry ran for state treasurer in Pennsylvania 2004. At that time he was militantly pro-life and he pretty much ran a single issue campaign against abortion.
I just checked Austin Petersen’s poll. He is still definitely third: Kerbel @ 37 %, Johnson 36 %, Petersen 15 %, yet someone posted an article on Libertarian Republic yesterday that said the frontrunners were Johnson and Petersen.
This kind of stuff will be entertainling until the November 2016 election. By then, we’ll be totally sick of all this, I predict.
Here’s the article. I don’t personally think it’s worth its own article here, but another writer might disagree. http://thelibertarianrepublic.com/jesse-venturas-eyeing-the-libertarian-party-presidential-nomination/
Oh, please. Everyone knows it was the CIA and the Mossad. And this guy claims to be from another dimension? It must not be a very advanced … dimension. They must not be very good about being on time in this … dimension … he’s from either.
“Did McCain and the CIA create ISIS? We don’t know.” -Reid
Gotta go, check Josh’s tweets.

I actually need to get going. For once Andy J is ready early and impatiently awaiting me to get ready for work so if you can throw up a link to your twitter I’d rather let you take over.
I’m also covering the debate live from my twitter, but you’re nailing literally every little bit. I’m inclined to wave at you, Paulie.
Perry works with NH Liberty Alliance and wants to spread their software to other states to help influence legislation.
Kerbel wants to create a private option to let people opt out of SS. Perry wants full 100% privatization. He would start with offering everyone 45 and under to get out or get their money back. Doesn’t say what he would do withe people between age 45 and retirement age unless I missed it.
Feldman wants to use social security funds to pay student debt?
Reid talking about moving stuff from the federal to the state level. I missed the question.
Video is back. Perry would pardon Snowden and Manning. Reid says Snowden is both a traitor and a hero. One year in prison? Feldman would put Snowden through a trial, then give him a pardon and ask him to join the administration. Video died – I think on my end this time, reloading to see.
Video died. Phillies was asking a question about trade when it went out.
Reid preaching the doom and gloom gospel and says he has superior intellect and proposes comprehensive solutions to make America great again. He says he is uniquely in another dimension from all other candidates and says when you read his blog you will know exactly where he is coming from. He wants to restore the constitution and the republic.
Mr. Reid indicates that he is “in another dimension” from all of the other candidates running. Read his blog, you’ll understand.
Reid joins the panel. 3 minutes to catch up. He is not wearing his uniform.
Kerbel opposes government surveillance of the citizenry. Perry would abolish the NSA on his first day in office. Feldman will pardon Snowden and offer him a job.
Reid is almost there.
Mr. Reid has arrived.
Abortion.
Feldman says it’s being used as a distraction from other issues, people should make up their own minds and women should have the right to not have abortions.
Kerbel is pro-choice, as is Perry. Perry adds cut funding to either side of the debate.
All of the candidates support self-defense rights.
Internet went out momentarily, missed Feldman’s answer.
Debate’s been going on for about 30 minutes and I still haven’t seen the candidate who was “running late” come in.
As an attendee, I’m glad we didn’t wait.
Kerbel says government is the biggest job killer and we need to get it out of the way. Eliminate corporate tax. Wants tort reform – “loser pays.”
Question about jobs. Perry says government should not interfere in hiring, firing and wage decisions.
Kerbel says he doesn’t know how much he will bring in and wants only a small percent of it to go to staff. Says he will not have any campaign debt.
Perry hopes to find volunteer staff or staff that will work below the minimum wage to help demonstrate that people are willing to work for less than that.
Question about campaign spending, I think. Feldman says zero campaign debt and up to donors how much he will spend on staff. Perry believes in being fiscally responsible; swipe at Johnson campaign debt.
Missed more with 2 more calls. Perry was talking about ordering cocaine and heroin from the Sears catalog when I got back.
Feldman has 56 volunteers and 19,000 people in his database. Kerbel has some campaign staff and is trying to get more.
Perry wants to drive to as many states as possible. Feldman wants to engage the non-voters.
Feldman: Charitable contributions as tax credits, not tax deductions, putting Federal government in competition for contributions with all other charitable contributions.
Sounds mostly OK although I did miss the second question.
I was distracted while Feldman spoke. His standard speech. Question about military spending. I got distracted again with phone calls. I believe Perry said zero ultimately, Kerbel said something about cascading levels and Feldman wants all federal agencies to compete for funding.
Audio is all garbled up…sounds like they are talking underwater
Perry “legalize everything like tomatoes”
Kerbel is first. Contrary to what I thought it is pronounced KerBELL, not like kerbel sorta rhyming with gerbil.
Reid is apparently “running late” … Phillies says too bad.
Perry, Kerbel and Feldman are there. Reid does not appear to be there. Candidates will all get the same questions and have equal time. Opening statements 2 min each.
Herd claims he is putting together a broadcast network and his youtube effort is just the start of that. State committee elected by acclaim. I wasn’t watching earlier to know who they are. Presidential debate is starting.
Apparently Mark Herd is there.
State committee candidates speaking now. Phillies says there is opposition to him running again and is somewhat hesitant himself.
I could be wrong on the time.
I have not seen Mr. Reid as of yet, not sure if he’s still planning to attend.
On open thread Nick said it starts around the top of the hour if I read that right (in about 20 minutes) .. maybe 40 as he said an hour and that was about 20 minutes ago.

” I will try to recount the conversation paraphrasing as I did not record it or take detailed notes.
Hello this is George Phillies. Hello George, this is Robert Milnes calling. I’m calling about the debate. Is it too late to call? [referring to hour of the evening not day of month] No. Well the criteria are you must be a member of the party, Constitutionally elegible, get here yourself, filed with FEC and have a webpage. Oh, I have all but one, FEC filing. I understand there is a discussion in IPR about these criteria. Will Darryl be there? He has declared that he will not file with FEC on principle. Well, there are presently 3 scheduled speakers, Kerbel, [Darryl] Perry, Feldman, and maybe a fourth. Who are you again? We have a bad connection. Robert Milnes. We met at the NJ/PA convention in 2008. There were 10 there. Oh yes, I remember you. I wasn’t sure who I was talking to. Well we want credible candidates and three would be enough. [There are 26 listed on politics1] Well, what are you saying George? I can’t come? I will not be allowed in? Are you going to make me crash your debate, George? Well if you do come here you are not invited to speak and I will call security. Well I guess you will have to call security George because I am going to try to come. HANG UP by George.”
Like I try to do every year for the LAMA, I’ll also be covering the event live on my blog, record delegate and officer election results, and hopefully conduct some interviews.
“panderbate”
I learned a new word today.
This was posted on the LPFK facebook:
Libertarians Awake! Pursuant to Dr. George Phillies’ invitation, I will be attending in person the Libertarian Party Massachusetts State Convention for a presidential debate on 10/17/2015. As you all are aware, the DEM and REP pandering political machines have had panderbate infomercials, which are little more than, if not less than, farcical political party publicity stunts. The DEMs pander the moral hazards of decadent socialism, while the REPs engage infighting spewing their brand of band aid pander offering insignificant and ineffectual solutions to major systemic problems. The DEMs and REPs presidential candidates are following the script, as expected, and offer no solutions to major US problems. The current situation has been predicted and is totally expected as the DEMs and REPs bury themselves in fraudulent pandering and debilitating infighting, providing the Libertarian Party a rare opportunity to capture the White House and save the country from social chaos if not anarchy and economic collapse if not devastation. After 110 years of DEM and REP political control at the federal level, bankrupting the country, concentrating totalitarian socialistic fascist power in DC, bastardizing our Constitution, Republic, Money, Markets, limiting our liberties and freedoms from government, transferring wealth from the 99% to the top 1%, embedding corruption and undue influence in federal government functions, destroying our economy, and causing war in numerous military interventions abroad, we Libertarians must rise up in 2016, to save the country from ruination. The timing and expected course of the DEM and REP pandering political machines and their candidates, is going absolutely perfect and according to plan and expected script, for a rise of the Libertarian Party in 2016, Restoring Americana Greatness. In the spirit of our lost manufacturing base of the 1960s, “WE ARE AMERICANS, WE CAN DO!”

“Invited Feldman to provide a statement.”
Thank you for the invitation.
I respectfully decline.
Well, as long as there won’t be anyone from the Goat-Libertarian Alliance with National Socialists (GLANS) there…
Libertarian Green Tea.
The fourth Presidential candidate is Derrick Michael Reid.
Johnson is not currently a candidate.
I think Moulton clarified that Petersen told him it was too short notice and he does plan to participate at other state convention debates. Also hopefully Johnson will announce in time to make some of them as well.
Austin Petersen declined, according to Phillies because he couldn’t afford the trip. I don’t know if Johnson was invited, but he won’t be participating before he formally declares.
Are AP and GJ invited?
Invited Feldman to provide a statement.
Updated with statements from Kerbel and Perry.
Commenting to.. well you know
