From the Bayou Buzz (h/t to Daily Kos):
Congressman Joseph “Anh”Cao, a Republican, who defeated William “Bill” Jefferson [and Malik Rahim – Ross] is facing a recall petition because of his vote on the Barack Obama stimulus package. The recall has been initiated by a group of ministers.
Cao had indicated that he would be voting in favor of the controversial legislation but instead voted against it.
Papers have been filed with the Office of the Louisiana Secretary of State which started the process requiring sufficient signatures to force a recall election for the office held by Representative Cao.
Cao represents a majority African American community many who were outraged by Cao’s vote. Cao made national news with his victory over Bill Jefferson.
One elected official, State Representative Juan A. LaFonta, Democrat of District 96 told Bayoubuzz that he does not know about the existence of the petition but that he would sign it.
“We don’t need Cao to be Steve Scalise”, said LaFonta. Scalise is a Republican who represents a neighboring conservative Congressional District. “People are starving and Cao needs to represent the people of the district”, LaFonta said.
Cao is Vietnamese and has been hailed by many in the media as a new face of the Republican Party.
The group of ministers who filed the petition want to make sure that he faces a recall which could be a very daunting act, if not impossible act in Louisiana based upon the state’s history.

Aside from being a child molester and mass murderer, JoJo ain’t so bad.
Most women I know, curse as much as the guys or even more.
“using language about women as their body parts to imply that a man is not manly enough is sexist.”
How? If I say GE you put out alot of estrogen, as a way of telling him I think he is unmanly, would that be sexist?By definition it is correct.
I think there are about a million better words and angles for discourse than to use sexual terms or derogatory terms.
I also wanted to note that I sometime think that throwing around nasty language like that discourages women from participating in party politics. I sometime think that men in power do that on purpose as a hazing, or to make the environment too unpleasant for women to work in. But, also, it might just be the accident of that is how men communicate.
One way to be more inclusive of women, is to just have some manners, until you get to know people better.
It’s not polite to curse, use sexual language, or potty humor in mixed company. (Especially, in a public place.)
And, using language about women as their body parts to imply that a man is not manly enough is sexist. (And, also, naive. I am a woman, and much tougher than many men I know…)

Deran,
Dont be a penis. =)
CT,
I assure you im capable. But for quickness’ sake, I rarely use the apostrophe when commenting on blogs, forums, or in instant messenging.
Trent, fix your apostrophe key. I don’t think you’ve ever used it on this site at all.
That’s gay.
sunshinebatman, don’t use the term “pussy” in a derogatory way. I’m not saying the conspiracy theories aren’t batshit. But, don’t be a sexist slob and use the word “pussy” as derogatory. It’s derogatory to women; if you don’t like women and their genitals that’s a separate issue, just don’t use the term in a derogatory manner. Ever. It’s like using the word “gay” as a derogatory term. Grow up.
Trent Hill,
It’s not the writer’s racial animosity that’s being questioned; it’s that of the black preachers who are calling for Cao’s recall. (Cao himself was a Jesuit seminarian who was thisclose to full-fledged priesthood, btw.)
There is other crazy racial shiznit going on in NOLa right now with people playing the race card b/c the “majority white” city council is calling shenanigans with the way Mayor Nagin is doing city contractors (contractors themselves areprob “majority white” BTW)
Cao BTW first ran for state legislature as an independent, so he’s IPR fodder in and of himself beyond just being Malik “I’m a much bigger pussy than Cynthia in re Katrina conspriacies” Rahim’s former opponent… perhaps… (time will tell?)…
paulie,
I dont think thats how it works. VTV posted because he had an interest in a particular issue. Fred posted one post, I hope he’ll post more. Ross has been getting back into the swing of things well, though. And Iv been blogging more too.
I hope everyone will continue posting with this frequency.
At least.
I’ve slacked off the last few days, but I’m hoping if I pick it back up other people won’t slow back down as a result.
BTW: Our frontpage now has blog posts from 5 different authors. I hope everyone will continue posting with this frequency.
Kimberly is exactly correct.
This is where two party politics gets crazy.
THE STIMULUS PACKAGE STINKS!!!!
Come on. Seems like anyone who studies politics and/or economics would know that.
It is amazing that a handful of anyone is fooled into thinking that that corporate handout is worth anything.
So, I agree with the Republican Cao. There should have been a NO vote on the stimulus package.
Now, does he deserve to be recalled? Maybe so. But, so does ALL of Congress. Can’t think of one of them who is worth his weight in pork.
Ross is correct.
Not the food kind of pork, don’t worry Jews and Muslims, but I mean the financial/stimulus tax-payer pork
Both are bad for you, especially the tax kind.
I think paulie was saying that black Democrats are the ones trying to recall Cao.
Also, I agree that it’s not from DK and Vietnamese is an ethnicity, so the article itself isn’t racist.
That doesnt make any sense. The writer of the article is Jeff Croeur, a white guy who lives in Kenner (right outside New Orleans)–and he’s a Republican. Why would he attack a fellow Republican on racial grounds?
He’s not the one pushing for the recall, he’s just writing about it.
I wish the recall could happen, but I do believe that George and Richard are right that it is unconstitutional, and I think the constitution should respected in this particular case.
I condemn his decision to vote against Porculous. Pork is necessary for the survival of the democratic socialist republic of the United States of America and for the general course of world civilization. (Not the food kind of pork, don’t worry Jews and Muslims, but I mean the financial/stimulus tax-payer pork).
“Racial animosity is probably a major factor behind many of the folks who want a recall. Partisanship, probably, as well.”

Steven,
Cao is the first Vietnamese American to serve in Congress, i think its a useful and interesting detail.
Racial animosity is probably a major factor behind many of the folks who want a recall. Partisanship, probably, as well.
Is it relevant to the story? Are ANY of the other names in the story linked to their ethnicity?
If not, I would maintain that the writer was attempting to arouse some sort of racist response.
If it isn’t relevant, why bring it up?
PEACE
It’s Bayou Buzz, DK just linked it.
Vienamese is an ethnicity as well as a nationality. I don’t think it is necessarily racist to say that Congressman Cao is Vietnamese, any more than it is to say that someone else is Italian, Jewish, etc.
Cao is Vietnamese….
No, he is not. Cao is an NATURALIZED AMERICAN who happened to immigrate from Viet Nam.
I suppose a bit of racism might have been expected from a deep south publication a few decades ago. But the racism expressed by DailyKos is more than disconcerting.
The racism expressed by DailyKos is repulsive.
PEACE
George is right. People tried to recall US Senator Frank Church in 1967 but the Idaho Supreme Court ruled that members of Congress can’t be recalled. And the 1995 US Supreme Court decision US Term Limits v Thornton backs up that ruling.
You can’t recall a Congressman. This is a Federal Constitutional issue.
Not a big deal here, but I think you may have erased the ex-Congressman’s last name, Jefferson.
To be fair, it is there later in the post.
Cao had indicated that he would be voting in favor of the controversial legislation but instead voted against it.
I’m glad he changed his mind. Politicians do that sometimes, which is to be expected.
Too bad more of them didn’t vote against the porkulus.
Congressman Joseph “Anh”Cao, a Republican, who defeated William “Bill” [and Malik Rahim – Ross] is…

Scalise is one of the most conservative members of the House and, besides the War and Patriot Act, is pretty damned good on the issues. Cao voted the right way and I hope he doesnt get recalled–he’ll just be replaced with a liberal Democrats (probably a black male, because everyone in that district things it HAS to be a black rep).
