[The libertarian] philosophy is more than a desire for bare-bones government. It’s that no one has a higher claim to your property than you, and no one should take another person’s property through force or fraud.
Agreed. But then, a tax on goods and services isn’t exactly the Sheriff of Nottingham aiming a crossbow at your head.
Maybe one of the Libertarians could face off against someone in the “yes to SPLOST” group in a public debate. Oh wait, I forgot. In this country, we don’t allow Libertarians in such things.

Since the LP/CSRA and the Augusta libertarian Meetup Group are the only opposition voices against this sales tax, we will get a huge boost if we defeat it. The Republican Party talk radio shills are all for it as are the Democrats and most in the business community. Neither the “lower tax” Republican Party nor the “anti-corporate welfare” Democrat Party have made any statement on it at all.
Richmond Co voters defeated a SPLOST in 2004 by a 63%-37% vote; 2 years later they approved one by a 70%-30% vote. If we can reverse such a large majority vote, it will be a good statement that 3rd parties and independents will better represent “the people” than do the major parties.
Ha, yes; I had considered labeling this ‘Dog Bites Man’, but decided to play it straight.
This is a news site about third parties – what they’re doing. It’s not reserved for instances when they behave unexpectedly.
