Georgia Green Party to Meet in Atlanta for Annual Convention

The Georgia Green Party is hosting its 2025 annual convention this month in Atlanta. The party will meet at the Brownwood Recreation Center on May 24.

Convention business is scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM local time. According to details, the event is open to the public, but only dues-paying members may participate in official business. A virtual attendance option is also available, and members planning to participate remotely must register in advance.

While a detailed agenda has not been released, the convention will include elections for state party leadership and votes on potential amendments to its platform and bylaws. Members will vote to fill nine seats on the Georgia Green Party’s State Committee, including eight full terms and one single-year term, as well as two seats on the Delegation on National Green Party Affairs.

Notably, the Georgia Green Party is not the same as the Unified Green Party of Georgia, which has been the recognized state affiliate of the Green Party of the United States since 2024. The Georgia Green Party was once associated but deaccredited by the national organization in 2021 over its adoption of platform amendments endorsing the Declaration on Women’s Sex-Based Rights, a position the national party’s Accreditation Committee and the National Lavender Green Caucus formally challenged as contrary to the party platform. The Georgia Green Party has operated independently since and continues to retain that language in its platform.

Despite its deaccreditation, the Georgia Green Party’s bylaws continue to provide for a Delegation on National Green Party Affairs elected during conventions. While the delegation traditionally represents the state party in national matters before the Green National Committee, it now focuses on facilitating discussions among members about national political alliances, representing the party in negotiations with other state Green organizations, and recommending strategies for the presidential election cycle.
