The Reform Party issued a statement this week condemning the recent fatal shooting of two Israeli embassy staff members in Washington, D.C., calling the act “terrorism.” The shooting, which occurred earlier this month, was allegedly carried out in support of Palestine.
In a brief statement published on Thursday, May 28, Reform Party Treasurer Davis Collision, writing on behalf of the party’s Communications Committee, acknowledged the complexity of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict but stressed that violence does nothing to further a resolution.
“The situation in Palestine is complex, but you have to understand murdering two people that work at an embassy does not save the lives of children in Palestine,” the statement read. “We must call these murders what they are, an act of terrorism.”
The victims were shot and killed on May 21 outside the Lillian and Albert Small Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. The suspect, a 31-year-old Chicago resident, has been charged with multiple offenses, including two counts of first-degree murder and the murder of foreign officials. Authorities claim the suspect told police upon arrest that he carried out the attack for Palestine and Gaza.
Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro has since stated that federal investigators are treating the killings as both a hate crime and an act of terrorism.
