Libertarian National Committee Schedules Special Meeting to Consider Investigatory Report

The Libertarian National Committee will meet next week for a special meeting to hear the final report of its Special Investigatory Committee, which was established earlier this year to examine allegations of conflicts of interest and questionable business practices within the party’s national leadership.

“The Special Investigatory Committee appointed by the Libertarian National Committee has completed its work and is prepared to present its final report for the Committee’s consideration,” a statement on Monday from Chair Steven Nekhaila reads. “Accordingly, I am calling a special meeting of the LNC for Monday, June 9th at 8:00 PM ET to consider the adoption of the report.”

According to details, the meeting will take place remotely over Zoom. The national committee requires that registration be completed at least one hour before the meeting. Nekhaila also noted that most of the discussion surrounding the report will take place in executive session. However, he intends for the report to be made publicly available following its adoption.

The Special Investigatory Committee was established by a vote of the national committee earlier this year. It took over the responsibilities of an earlier committee originally formed to examine potential conflicts of interest and business dealings involving then-chair Angela McArdle, including financial transactions connected to a firm allegedly linked to her domestic partner. However, McArdle’s sudden resignation in January rendered the initial committee moot and led the LNC to dissolve it and create a new one with a broader scope to continue its work.

The special committee was initially scheduled to present its report at the national committee’s May in-person meeting. However, just before the meeting, the committee submitted a letter requesting additional time. In the letter, the committee explained that more than 50 pages of documentation had been submitted to the party’s legal counsel for review and that it would be completed “once all current matters have been fully examined and counsel has concluded its review.”

Note that this did not technically replace the first committee. The motion (20250123-02) to create the first committee indicated that it a motion investigate to determine if removal of the Chair was warranted.

This committee was appointed, “to investigate issues of conflict of interest and business practices of the Libertarian National Committee.” Ballot: 20250202-04
