Fmr. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre Announces Departure from Democratic Party in Upcoming Book

Former Biden-era White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is no longer affiliated with the Democratic Party and now identifies as an independent, according to the publisher’s description of her forthcoming book, “Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines.”

According to the book description, Jean-Pierre discusses her new affiliation and calls on Americans to “step beyond party lines.” The book is described as an “assessment of America’s broken two-party system,” providing insider accounts of the final three weeks leading up to President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from his 2024 reelection bid, and the “betrayal by the Democratic Party” that allegedly influenced his decision.

“We need to be willing to exercise the ability to think creatively and plan strategically,” Jean-Pierre is quoted in the description as saying. “We need to be clear-eyed and questioning, rather than blindly loyal and obedient as we may have been in the past. And freeing ourselves of boxes is truly at the heart and soul of my new book, Independent.”

The book is set to be physically released by Legacy Lit, an imprint of the Hatchett Book Group, this October.

Jean-Pierre previously worked as a senior adviser to President Biden’s 2020 campaign and as chief of staff to Vice President Kamala Harris before becoming the first Black and openly LGBTQ+ person to serve as White House press secretary. Prior to her tenure in the Biden administration, she also held positions within the Obama White House and in both of his presidential campaigns.
