LRC columnist calls for LP to nominate Paul, Paul to accept

The Libertarian National Convention kicks off tomorrow in Denver, and by the end of the day Sunday, the LP will have its nominee. LewRockwell.com columnist James Ostrowski hopes that nominee will be Ron Paul.

I understand perfectly why Ron decided not go third party but enough facts have changed since then that he should rethink that decision. Just by way of example: The economy has tanked just as he predicted. No clear LP nominee has emerged. Obama has imploded. There’s lots of buyer’s remorse about McCain. Finally, it’s clear to me after just a few months of trying to keep the Revolution together in New York, as I wrote before, the only man who can keep this unlikely coalition going is Ron Paul!

As far as I’m concerned, Ron Paul’s campaign in the primaries was the biggest libertarian campaign of the year. We need to build on it with strong Libertarian races for Congress, and lay the groundwork for a strong protest vote in 2010.

Ron Paul has received more than 1 million votes – a milestone for a libertarian candidate. None of the hopefuls for the Libertarian nomination can match the Ron Paul campaign, so we need to focus where we can have an impact.

I can’t think of a cooler scenario, but I’m not holding my breath. He would face some serious recriminations from the GOP if he did this, and I just don’t think that as a 70+ year old man he really wants to campaign hard for another 5 months. For all I know, he’s under “doctor’s orders” not to do it.

I gave up on Ron almost two months ago. He’s not going to do it, it’s time to move on.

After hearing Chuck Baldwin in a radio interview, the LP needs to make a good choice or I’m going CP/USTP/AIP for the first time with Baldwin. He is MUCH closer to Ron Paul than C.I.A. Barr will ever be…

Ruwart, Burns,Kubby, Smith, maybe Phillies or Root. No way on anyone else, IMHO some of the also rans are certifiably INSANE …

I’ll pledge a full grand if he changes his mind and makes a go of it.
