Mary’s speech moves woman to tears, inspires converts and contributors

Mary Ruwart spoke today at 12:30 p.m., local time. After the speech, several people wearing buttons for other candidates — Christine Smith, Root, and Barr — came to Mary’s booth and said they had been converted. They took off their old buttons and replaced them with Mary stickers. One woman was moved to tears and said, “I felt I was in the presence of greatness.”

Another man came to the booth with a question about FEC law. He wanted to make a $2,300 contribution to the campaign immediately, before the nomination, so that he could make an additional $2,300 contribution afterwards, if allowed by law. He made the contribution and asked to be contacted if he could legally give more.

This is not surprising at all … and rather encouraging if it means she is reaching some erstwhile Barr voters. (Slightly reminiscent of Kaye Harroff’s “the speech” back in 1975? No coincidence that she is a woman contending against a basically GOP conservative — RMac was after all a GOP EC voter, which led to his campaign, in part out of gratitude).

G.E and Austin—you guys are doing an awesome job of keeping us updated with all of the news. You must not have slept at all last night!! Great new site also–3rd party watch appears to be quite stagnant these days.

Thank you, Brooke. I’ve had very little sleep since IPR was founded!

About how many people heard this speech ?

I read elsewhere there are under 600 delegates in attendance. Any chance you can ask Redpath the official delly count? THX

I believe 65 people watched Mary speak, but hundreds more could hear the broadcast. Virtually everyone not on the actual voting floor.
