Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno was in Rochester on Thursday not raising money for Republicans—but for the Monroe County Independence Party.
Among his events, Bruno was wooing the party’s leaders during its annual spring dinner as the GOP seeks to retain control of the state Senate in the November election. Republican currently have a two-seat majority.
Thanks largely to the money of Rochester billionaire Tom Golisano, the Independence Party still has clout and has the third line on the ballot.
Tom Golisano, for those who don’t know, ran for Governor under the ballot-line of the Independence Party in 1994, 1998, and 2002–achieving 4%, 8%, and 14% respectively.
