I just heard an interesting rumor from a friend who is attending the LP convention in Denver. Apparently he reports that there is talk of the LP rehiring Shane Cory. I’ve already heard from a number of people, include Shane himself, that Stephen Gordon will remain on as the Editor of Third Party Watch.
The rumor involving Cory is that Bill Redpath had strongly wanted him to stay at LPHQ, but Cory resigned anyway. Previously, it was thought that he was forced out for putting out a press release without authorization.
The mood of many on the convention floor is that Bob Barr already has the nomination locked up and the “pro-reform” or “takeover caucus” (depending on your bias, I’ve heard it both ways) is essentially running the show this afternoon. On most votes, the reports I’ve heard is that they are outnumbering the so-called “purists” by more than 2-1.

Much of this is surprising based on events thus far. Is Mr. Barr’s support in fact much bigger than Mr. Nolan had in 2004?
But perhaps you have more details than others here.
Certainly Mr. Barr has a strong base of support, and even wider than I would have expected. I think he would need the support of other campaigns to get over the top.
Let’s see how the platform goes on Saturday and then who gets in the debate.
Maybe there should be good odds that Mary <3 will be on the ticket.
For now, the suites are sweet and Mr. Barr has an excellent open reception.
This guy is the ultimate evil villain of the Libertarian Party. He keeps coming back. Another round of russian roulette anyone?
I’m on a break from the Ruwart booth… Not much time…
Phillies has a lot more support than expected. A lot of people consider him to be a “radical” or “purist.” Also, he has a great hospitality suite. That’s winning over some undecideds, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
So who will bargin with who come Sunday?
I figure Root might try to buy the VP spot by giving his support to Barr. Kubby may do the same to Ruwart.
Who does Phillies throw it to if he’s not in the top of the heap? Or Gravel?
I think those people are sure that Barr has a plurality….but a majority? I think not.
Clearly Barr and Root have sizeable portions, as does Mary Ruwart.
Who knows how many Barr buses there actually are (was). Like the old song went (slightly altered):
Thank GOD and GREYHOUND he’s nominated…
Everyone needs to watch the video by the Ron Paul twins recently posted on this site. The youth can teach OLD FOOLS things occasionally.
The LP nominates a C.I.A. spook to lead the Party. The world has truly gone upside DOWN bat-CRAZY…
Again, I’m just reporting the impressions I’m hearing from friends at the convention.
G.E. is actually there and perhaps he’ll be able to get to a computer and file some reports later on. For now though, this is what I’m hearing.
Sounds like a lot of delegates may not have arrived yet. Then again… I guess the Barr bus hasn’t shown up either.
Not everyone that will be voting for the candidates is in the procedural voting right now. The Bobarr’s are in for more of a ride than they are anticipating when it comes time to vote for the presidential candidate. Barr is going to be quite embarrased,,,just stand back and see…..
The “reformers” beating the “purists” by 2 to 1? Is this based on some procedural votes? It seems rather hard to believe.
Terrible news (if true). Hopefully the LP will be able to rebuild itself after these people destroy it by turning it into GOP-lite.
