McKinney begins New York ballot access effort

A post on the Village Voice website Friday afternoon said Green Party presidential nominee Cynthia McKinney was scheduled to appear in Manhattan Friday evening to kick off her New York ballot access drive. The post says the Greens “hope to garner at least five percent of the general election vote, the amount required to eliminate the annoying need to qualify on a state-by-state basis every four years.”

I think she means with 5% in the general election they won’t need to do state-by-state fundraising for matching funds in the next primary season.

No, ballot access is state by state. Though I believe that if you were to get 5% of the vote in EVERY state, that you would get a guaranteed ballot line for yourself or your party in most of them.

The only exception I can think of is New York, which bases its ballot lines on performance in gubernatorial elections.

Is this a true statement? Five percent get matching fund for the socialist, but does it eliminate all requirements for ballot access sigs? I don’t think so…
