Chuck Baldwin Endorses Steve Stockman for Ron Paul Congressional Seat

Chuck Baldwin, the former Presidential nominee of the Constitution Party, has written this article endorsing Steve Stockman for Ron Paul’s Congressional seat. Ron Paul is a Congressman and former Presidential candidate of the Libertarian Party in 1988–he is not running for re-election this year. Steve Stockman is a candidate running to replace Ron Paul, as a Republican. However, former Representative Stockman has, in the past, been connected with the Constitution Party–providing campaign training and being considered by delegates as a candidate for President and Vice President at times.

There seems to be some confusion because Steve Stockman’s website says that he’s running for office in TX-36. This newly created district does contain a small part of Ron Paul’s TX-14, including the city of Friendswood where Stockman has listed as his hometown. For the most part, however, it overlaps more with what is now TX-08 which is currently held by Republican Kevin Brady.

A GOP State Senator named Mike Jackson is the candidate who has gotten the most attention in the 36th race.

I know nothing about the new demographics. Judging by the number of Republicans signing up, and the number of Democrats, I’d say it’s still safely Republican.

Has there been any polling in the district? I thought this district was so badly gerrymandered that it is going to be very difficult for a Republican to win. I was under the impression that the GOP controlled Texas legislature did this deliberately to force Ron Paul to either give up his presidential race to concentrate on retaining his House seat in a decidedly less friendly district or to retire and get out of the way. With friends like that…

Stockman is currently flying under the radar in the Ron Paul movement, but I don’t think that will last. He’s a former congressman with a pretty impressive record. He’s pro-gold, anti-war, anti-tax, etc.
