The Independence Party of Minnesota has taken an active role in opposing an anti-gay marriage amendment which will be on the ballot in November. Now, they’ve released a series of videos, featuring former Gubernatorial candidate Jack Uldrich and Jesse Ventura, encouraging members of the party and other Independents in the state to vote “No”.
Thousands of Independence Party members and political independents including former Gov. Jesse Ventura are taking the pledge to vote no this November on the anti-marriage amendment that would limit freedoms for a select group of committed Minnesota couples.
Gov. Ventura was one of the hundreds of Minnesotans involved in our March “Independents United” event on behalf of the official campaign to defeat this amendment, Minnesotans United for All Families.
This is Governor Ventura’s first active involvement in the party since 2010, when he recorded an audio message for a fellow candidate in the party to use.
That would be so awesome! If the VP candidates distracted the moderators so that Romney and Obama could have at it with folding chairs… that is something Americans could really have fun watching. And similar to all other debates, afterwards each side would claim to have been the rightful winner.
Maybe Ventura will run LP after all and Hogan could run as Americans Elect. They could then have a “debate” in the ring. Might get more views than Obama vs. Romney, unless maybe they also do a debate turned wrestling match.
It seems like wrestling is more popular than ever, oddly enough, so it might increase his name recognition–so long as his character was affable.
Now that Hogan is back in wrestling can Ventura be far behind?
I can assure you he isnt “still popular everywhere”. In Louisiana if you mention him, you’ll either be met with “who?” or “Why would I vote for a wrestler?”
A run for President would be a waste of his potential. But he could probably make a very solid run at US Senate, Governor’s mansion, or a house seat in MN.
From any of those offices–he could launch a presidential campaign in four years.
Good for Jesse Ventura and the Independence Party of Minnesota. Anti-gay marriage amendments are completely absurd and fly in the face of the principles for which this country is supposed to stand.

Jesse Ventura is still popular everywhere. A Jesse Ventura run for any office would be big, and he’d stand a good chance of winning or at least making a good showing for himself. I really hope that Jesse Ventura shows up at the Libertarian Party’s National Convention in Las Vegas next month.
I don’t think he wants to hold elected office again.

I hear you. I’m not saying he’d win or that he’s maintained his same levels of popularity. But, he definitely still has name recognition and doesn’t appear to be averse to third party politics at all.
I’m quite surprised we havent seen a Libertarian Party run, an Americans Elect announcement, or a run for US Senate or Governor of MN.

Ventura flirts with a run nearly every cycle that a major office is being voted on. In 2008, he was not shy about his interest in the senate race. He allegedly played a game of golf with Dean Barkley that decided which of the two of them was going to run (allegedly). By all accounts he won’t be returning to Minnesota politics. He drops by every once in a while to keep his name alive, but he is not involved in any initiatives in any major way and spends most of his time on his TV show and surfing at his house in Mexico. He does remain relatively popular in Minnesota, however, in my opinion his popularity has declined as a result of his tv show, which most Minnesotans think is kind of a joke. I remember a poll in 2008 suggesting that he could garner about 20% of the vote in a three-way senate race. My opinion is that this would be his support ceiling and that his actual vote percentage could have been a lot lower.
It seems to me that Ventura is still quite popular in MN. I wonder why he hasnt made nay third party run for anything since then. He’s just sat and let his notoriety fade away.
