Brett Bittner is essentially now an elected member of the Marietta County Board of Education. With qualifying closed, he is facing no opposition in his campaign. Bittner is the Executive Director of the Libertarian Party of Georgia and, unless a strong write-in candidate emerges, will be the third elected official in Georgia.
However, this is a special election, so Bittner will be forced to stand for re-election in 2013.

Roger Gary, that is such a great point! It should be a top strategy and focus of state parties to get Libertarians in office in this manner. State parties, with the assistance of local contacts, should monitor the availability of these opportunities and then contact their members in those localities where these opportunities present themselves to urge them to try to fill these offices.
Starchild, that is also a great point and something I also think about often when it comes to Libertarians in office. Here is an idea for a fruitful website: a Libertarians In Office type of website where Libertarians in office can write about and keep us updated on their fight to advance freedom, the successes they have achieved, etc. and can notify fellow Libertarians for any assistance they need.

If elected July 31st, I will be serving for the remainder of the unexpired term for 15 months before facing re-election.

I look forward to hearing from Brett about the fights to advance the cause of freedom that he is waging to advance freedom from the vantage point of his new elected position, and how we in the freedom movement, especially local Libertarians and other liberty lovers in his district, can help.
How many elected Libertarians are doing this? All of them should be, imho. They need our support in order to maximize their effectiveness in the offices in which they are serving, and we need them to keep us posted from their insider perspectives so that we can best render informed, timely, and meaningful assistance.
