GOP PAC Helps Democratic Candidate In Order to Keep Independent From Winning

A political action committee in Maine that has many connections to the Republican Party is now purchasing and running ads supporting the Democratic candidate in the race, Cynthia Dill, in an effort to hurt the Independent candidate, Angus King, who is leading in all the polls. The strategy seems to be to influence King voters to instead switch to voting for Dill, thereby giving the Republican candidate a better chance at winning the plurality.

Michael Adams, the Treasurer for the PAC, is also the General Counsel to the Republican Governors Association. See this story for more information.

@1 According to Real Clear Politics, Angus King would caucus with the Democrats. I wouldn’t think he’d be too much different than Sen. Collins either.

Does anyone know which party former Gov. King is likely to caucus with? It appears he will win this seat but will he really be much different than Sen. Collins?
