On Top Magazine:”Gary Johnson Calls On Minnesotans To Reject Gay Marriage Ban”

On Top Magazine reports that Gov. Gary Johnson has issued a statement urging Minnesota voters to reject a proposed ban on gay marriage that will be on the ballot in November:

“Just last week, a federal court in New York ruled the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) unconstitutional – and that was the correct decision. Denying committed couples the right to marry under the law is discrimination, plain and simple. While different faiths may choose not to perform or recognize same-sex marriage, the government has no business deciding who should be allowed to marry,” said Johnson, who served as governor of New Mexico as a Republican.

Gov. Johnson further states:
“As a Libertarian, I believe there is much that government does and tries to do to interfere in our personal lives that it simply has no business doing. I am proud to join with Minnesota Libertarians in taking a stand against discrimination and the idea that government should be imposing moral values on free people.”

FDS – I have long advocated the change in the First Amendment you propose – “Congress shall make no law.”

I used to have a badge that said “End Discrimination Against Liberty – Repeal Laws”

    TK@8:

Berkman explained it pretty good, but I’d point out that violation of rights is immoral in general, but it is considered acceptable to legislate against that.

Yes, the First Amendment should have been truncated at “Congress shall make no law.”

And yes, Grundmann is still a latent gay idiot.

Congratulations to Mr. Johnson for his consistent belief in marriage equality!

    Amen!

“Can’t/shouldn’t legislate morality” is an empty bromide. If the people who say it mean something else, they should say what it is that they mean instead of something else.

    No victim, no crime…

Tom @ 10- yes in fact, all legitimate laws, those prohibiting force or fraud, are based on morality.
People who think it is immoral to kill, to steal, or to defraud someone support such laws for moral reasons, that is right.

But when people say you cannot legislate morality, they are talking about legislating behaviors that are considered wrong for cultural reasons in most cases, but reasons which religious people often confuse with morality.

I understand I was not as clear as I could be, but trying to be concise.

Gene – Homosexuals comprise 2% of the populace. Yet while heterosexuals comprise 98% of the populace and automatically have a far bigger numerical number regarding pedophilia the homosexual populace has a far higher percentage of its populace involved in this activity.

Additionally, as just one cultural indicator, you can check out any normal social/cultural parade – Italian, Irish, Eskimo, Columbus Day, etc. You will find no endorsement of child molestation is any such activities.

In complete contrast I have, many times, filmed child molestion groups, most specifically one called NAMBLA – North American Man Boy Love Association whose motto is ” Sex before 8 or its too late ” ( to not survive from their attack ) – in the San Francisco ” Pride ” ( in sodomy ) Parade. And this is just the ” Pride ” ( in sodomy ) Parade of one city out of the many cities across the country in which the Homosexual/Sodomy Movement has such parades. Additionally NAMBLA itself has chapters in many cities throughout the country – Los Angeles, Seattle, New York, Miami, Dallas, Houston, Chicago and many more. This is in addition to their own monthly magazine ( by molestors and for molestors ) which they publish and in addtion to their website.

Bottom Line – Sex with children in an integral, keystone, and extremely strong part of the Homosexual/Sodomy Movement. As I quote from a homosexual philosopher at the website CandleCrusade.org – ” The homosexual movement can NEVER ( my emphasis ) be free until children are free.” English translation – The Homosexual/Sodomy Movement will only consider children ” free ” when they at any age can have sexual relations with anyone at anytime and for any reason.

The collapse of laws protecting traditional marriage will mean that it is only a matter of time until incest, sex with children, sex with animals, and anything else is not only legalized but taught to children in schools as normal and natural. The same arguments which are used to justify pervert/homosexual marriage will be used to justify and legalize any and all of the above. All of the above will demand ” equality ” and that they must have their ” civil/Constitutional rights.”

Your mention of the term ” bigoted ” in reference to the topic simply shows that you, like countless others, have been successfully Socially Engineered to accept and endorse an emotional pathology that in past times would have relegated to the trash cans of society since this is where such behavior and beliefs belonged.

You, as with myself, will only be called ” bigoted ” by those are bigoted against Christianity and normality and who have themselves been successfully Socially Engineered to accept sickness, perversion, degeneracy, pathology, and depravity as ” The New Normal.”

    Gene,

English can be unclear, but it shouldn’t be THAT unclear.

The argument for any piece of legislation comes down to one or both of two claims:

    1) That what it requires is right/good; and/or

    2) That what it prohibits is wrong/bad.

“Can’t/shouldn’t legislate morality” is an empty bromide. If the people who say it mean something else, they should say what it is that they mean instead of something else.

  8. Gene Berkman Post author | October 26, 2012

TK @ #8 – clearly you assume too much.

Many people say ” you can’t legislate morality” – including Barry Goldwater, and many since then, to argue against laws which regulate non-coercive personal behavior.

Actually what they mean is that it is wrong to legislate mores, or to use the coercive power of government to prevent personal behavior that you find objectionable, but which does not involve violating the rights of others.

Secondly, there is a strain of classical liberalism that favors limited government to prevent individuals or groups from engaging in forcr or fraud, but considers that common law should be the basis of government, not legislation.

  9. Thomas L. Knapp October 26, 2012

    FDS @ 4,

“legislating morality–which has no place in limited government.”

    Ah, a fellow anarchist!

To legislate, is to legislate morality.

If you’re against government legislating morality, you’re against government legislating.

And if you’re against government legislating, you’re against government.

  10. NewFederalist October 26, 2012

Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky was and/or is a professed heterosexual whose wife defends him all the way and yet he was convicted of terrible crimes against male children. I don’t remember Liberace being accused of such things. Broad statements about any group of human beings is dangerous at best.

  11. Gene Berkman October 26, 2012

Since incest and pedophilia are known to have existed for millenia, alongside traditional marriage, whereas same sex marriage is just now beginning to be accepted,

Since almost all incest and much and possibly most pedophilia is heterosexual in nature, then there is clearly a closer causal relation between heterosexual marriage and incest, and a meaningful relationship between heterosexual marriage and pedophilia.

As a happily married heterosexual about to celebrate an anniversary, I feel I can call out my fellow heterosexuals without sounding bigoted.

  12. Jill Pyeatt October 26, 2012

Congratulations to Mr. Johnson for his consistent belief in marriage equality!

  13. From Der Sidelines October 26, 2012

Amazing how some morons cannot differentiate between legal equality in marriage, actions between consenting adults in sex–which may or may not have anything to do with marriage, pedophilia–which has nothing to do with consenting adults, incest–which has nothing to do with anything, and legislating morality–which has no place in limited government.

Yet that is the rant Donnie Boy repeats ad nauseum.

I could debunk it, but I can spend the time better by de-fleaing my cat–if I had a cat.

  14. From Der Sidelines October 26, 2012

Solomon Grundman got his medicinal guy lay yet?

    Apparently not.

  15. Don J. Grundmann, D.C. October 26, 2012

It is good to see the Libertarian Party distinguishing itself ( coming out of its closet ) as the enemy of the family and children by their promotion of homosexual marriage via Gary Johnson.

By Johnsons logic of being ” against discrimination ” and ” government imposing moral values on free people ” laws against incest and ( especially ) child molestation ( the true driving force behind legalizing pervert marriage as I have described at CandleCrusade.org ) will also be opposed and eliminated by the same people who now support homosexual marriage using their same arguments.

After all such laws, according to the sick ” logic ” of those supporting so-called ” marriage equality,” are obviously based on ” religious bigotry ” and ” discrimination.” Since this is ” fact ” in their sick universe how can laws against incest and child molestion possibly be justified or defended as they are OBVIOUSLY ” discriminatory ” and ( horror of horrors ) ” imposing moral values on free people.”

By the way, laws against murder also ” impose moral values on free people.” But who cares about thsat when you want to advance an anti-Christian agenda that includes Socially Engineering children as young as kindergarten age to accept, support, promote, and then engage in homosexual perversion.

In past times sick politicians like Johnson would have been tarred, feathered and ” run out of town on a rail ” for such monstrous attacks against children much less against our culture and society.

It is hence a cultural marker of our national accelerating degeneracy that such sickness can be promoted by any politician much less an entire national party.

It will be the job of the Constitution Party to defend the children of our nation against the monstrous attacks upon them by sick politicians like Gary Johnson who work to advance the war of the Homosexual/Sodomy Movement against the children and future of our nation.

I applaud Johnson’s stance, but I wish it helped him more with libs. They are so brainwashed in this state. Liberals and conservatives are free to vote third party in MN because it’s a foregone conclusion that Obama will win handily here.
