Liberty Candidates’ Creator Gigi Bowman Runs for New York State Senate

Georgina (Gigi) Bowman, Creator and President of Liberty Candidates , will be running for New York State Senate, District 5.  The following is a statement from her on why she’s running.

My name is Gigi Bowman and I am running for office because I am tired of the government infringing on our liberties and rights and I’m here to shout out to my constituents that we have no choice but to become those we are at odds with –our own Government– in order to get back our liberties and freedoms. This nation was founded on “freedom from government” and we have forgotten why.

I lost my daughter to suicide in 2003. At the time I was a mother who believed in what doctors told me because I believed that the health of my children was in their best interest. I have since learned that the overreach of government combined with lobbying and corporatism is NOT in our best interest.

Since that time I have watched as the loss of liberty has become more and more apparent. From the the DHS to the Patriot Act to the TSA to FISA to the NDAA –through anti-liberty legislation we are groped, probed, spied upon and are at risk of getting detained without a trial and for no good reason. We have succumbed to endless war supporting the Military Industrial Complex and have been lied to in order to support Corporate Entities. We submit to entities like the UN whose only mission is to take away our American sovereignty through implementing a plan of action under the guise of sustainable development also known as Agenda 21 and in reality known as Communitarianism –by definition it is loss of individual liberty for the “greater good.” But whose greater good? This is being brought in through our chamber of commerce and our local communities without our knowledge. It is being sold to us and we’re buying it because we are so busy working so hard to pay our “bills” that we just don’t have the time to research every new law and every new change –and they seem to be coming faster and faster…… and they don’t even read the bills themselves!

“Communitarianism is the belief that individual and national sovereignty must be balanced against the needs of the global collective. Their entire foundation for forced social evolution rests on their Big Idea that all the world”s people will be “free” after everyone gives up any claims to their personal freedom. Defined as the new “spirit” of community, Communitarians believe they are leading mankind into an advanced moral and spiritual state of being. Across the globe, communitarian gurus promote a global program designed to create one big, planned, gated community. They call it sustainable community development.”

I am stepping up today to run for office because I cannot sit back and watch any longer as our beautiful country and the freedoms and liberties that our founders fought so hard for are diminished daily by political parties and administrations that are working against the people not for the people. While we are struggling to afford what we hope are fresh healthy food for our children, our legislators spend their days doing photo-ops, ribbon cuttings and running photo contests about our environment instead of educating US about what is happening to our community —they most likely don’t even know themselves! Why? Because they are NOT WORKING FOR US! They are working to STAY in office with no checks and balances. Like a winning lottery ticket they receive a huge salary, expenses and unending medical and life benefits for themselves and their families and that’s all they care about. THIS MUST END!

The issues I intend to bring to the forefront effect ALL of us in our communities from Corporatism and Big Pharma infecting our lives through labeling our children and mandating vaccines and medications to our monetary policies which are causing deflation where we can no longer afford to sustain any sort of standard of living –seniors can’t afford to stay in the homes they own because the taxes are so high (which means they don’t really own those homes because if they don’t pay their taxes they lose them!) and young people can’t afford to live on their own. — If things keep up at the rate they are going Long Island will eventually become a ghost town or a Communitarian campground with the government feeding, supporting and housing a good part of our communities in return for complete loss of liberty.

It is time for individuals like myself to take action. –to step up and stop the overreach of government from infringing on our country if we ever intend to give our offspring a chance in this country. And we have to start locally!

This week I watched as a tragedy in another state brought upon the loss of liberty to the people of New York State. The Constitution and the Bill of Rights, upon which our country was founded, and what has kept us as the most freedom loving nation in the world, has been crumbled and discarded. We have given up our Liberty for a little bit of Security. We have given up our rights as a people by having elected people into office that no longer care about the foundation from which America was built.

The issues that are affecting our lives are the issues we need to talk about. From red light cameras on our streets to spying on our families through the internet to genetically modified food being forced upon us without our knowledge to having our children and parents groped and radiated in order to enter a form of public transportation. We can no longer reasonably defend our own property or defend our families in our own homes. We can no longer plan for our future because our dollar has lost its value.

We need to begin at home and we need to begin by educating our parents, children, friends, neighbors, teachers about what is really going on. Why are we letting the future of the next generation down? Why are we making it so hard for the last generation to pay their bills? Why is the Government in charge when our country was founded by the people and for the people?

Think about it. Talk to me. Let’s discuss the issues. Let’s find out what we can do.

I am co-organizer of a group called Save Long Island and every month we show films that will help to enlighten us about the issues I have spoken of above. Check out our website and see what we have learned and the most important thing we must do is ASK QUESTIONS and TALK TALK TALK about what is happening to us in our homes and communities so we can enlighten others and make the changes we need to in order to retain what liberties and freedoms we have left.

Join me. I’m running for office for YOU, and for my family and friends. NOT FOR THE GOVERNMENT.

Mark Axinn said: “I am a co-plaintiff in a federal action challenging that law as unconstitutional and we expect a decision soon on the pending summary judgment action.”

While you are at it, you ought to file a law suit against the out-of-state petition circulator ban in New York. I know that groups in New York find ways around this law, but still, it is something that ought to be challenged in court because it is an unnecessary (and unconstitutional) burden. Out-of-state petition circulator bans were recently thrown out in court in Virginia and Washington DC, and they have also been thrown out in Ohio, Oklahoma, Nebraska, South Dakota (at least for party petitions), and Arizona. I think that if somebody filed a law suit over this in New York that there is a good chance that they’d win.

John is spot-on about Working Families Party. It is basically the party of union bosses. They almost always cross-endorse the Democratic candidate.

The Independence Party is much harder to pin down. It was the vehicle for Tom Golisano’s runs for Governor in the 90’s (think the New York version of Ross Perot; they were even in the same business) and has had tremendous amount of in-fighting between very divergent factions over the years.

But it has almost 500,000 registered members, many of whom may think they are registering Independent when the checked that box on the registration form!

  3. Mark Axinn Mark Axinn January 26, 2013

It’s entirely up to Gigi (and of course the Independence Party) if she seeks their line. There won’t be any objection from the LPNY.

This year, we ran a couple of fusion candidates: Dan Halloran ran for Congress in Queens on the Republican, Conservative, Independence and LP lines. David Casavis ran for an Assembly seat from the Upper East Side of Manhattan as Republican, Independence, Libertarian.

David told me getting the Republican and Independence nominations in Manhattan took about six seconds; don’t forget that Manhattanites went 85% for Obama so R’s ain’t real strong here!

That’s not true however in Gigi’s suburban district, where they actually have lots of Republicans and the Independence Party also actually exists.

  4. johnO johnO January 26, 2013

You are correct the Independence Party is a moderate-centrist party and Ms. Bowman may not want this line with Libertarian Party line.

  5. johnO johnO January 26, 2013

I thought she could use New York’s fusion for her benefit. Libertarian Party and Independence Party line and try to break the stranglehold of the D’s and R’s. The D’s will go with the Working Families Party and the R’s sometimes, not always, go with the Conservative Party of NY. Those who are Independence members and don’t want to vote for the other lines could help her. She doesn’t have to do this. I just thought it may be a strategic move. Ms. Bowman can still stay with just the Libertarian line like the Green candidate in upstate New York. Fusion let’s the D and R candidates have voters who would otherwise not vote for them.

  6. Jill Pyeatt Jill Pyeatt Post author | January 26, 2013

Why not the Libertarian Party, John?

  7. johnO johnO January 26, 2013

The best fit for her would be the Independence Party. Working Families is too far left. Green Party wouldn’t allow fusion. Conservative Party is Pro-Life and opposed to Gay Marriage. So, if going the fusion route I would suggest trying to get the Independence Party line (if the Libertarian Party of NY goes for it).

  8. Mark Axinn Mark Axinn January 25, 2013

A word on fusion, which is near and dear to my heart.

NY Election Law allows fusion among the parties (Cuomo ran as Democrat, Working Families and Independence Parties), and it will allow someone like Gigi if she so desired to run as Libertarian (which is not a party in New York, only an independent body) and one other party. But as yet another insult to independent bodies, New York Election Law does not allow one to run on two independent body lines, even if the candidate busts his/her ass and gets 15,000 valid signatures twice to do so!

In 2010, Randy Credico did just that, qualifying as our US Senate candidate and also for another independent body, and of course he wanted to appear on both lines. The BOE sent him a letter and told him to pick just one, and then when he refused to respond they arbitrarily put him on the Libertarian line and left the spot for his name on the other line blank!

I am a co-plaintiff in a federal action challenging that law as unconstitutional and we expect a decision soon on the pending summary judgment action.

I am sure Richard Winger and others will keep you apprised of the developments.

I know you know. If I was only talking to you I’d send you an email, or call you if I could keep my phone from losing charge during the amount of time you like to take for phone calls (in fairness it doesn’t take my ten year old phone long to lose charge…so I can only make short calls unless I’m sitting there plugged in).

What is somewhat unique about NY (although not completely unique to them, most places don’t allow this) is that she can run as a Libertarians as well as other party or parties at the same time.”

Yes, I know. It is called candidate fusion. This process also exists in New Hampshire.

  11. paulie paulie January 24, 2013

Good luck on the campaign. If out traveling road crew can help in any way while we pass through your way, we will.

Gigi Bowman said: “I’d actually like it to be the only line I would run on but of course here on Long Island everything thinks you have got to be r or d as well (we can run on more than one line here). ”

This line of thinking is not unique to Long Island, NY. This is what most people everywhere in this country think. Most of the public has been brainwashed into thinking that you’ve got to be a Democrat or a Republican. This is one of the reasons that a lot of people don’t bother voting. They either don’t know that anyone else is running, or they think that nobody else stands a chance to win, so why bother.

  14. Gigi Bowman Gigi Bowman January 24, 2013

of course Wes 🙂 I’d actually like it to be the only line I would run on but of course here on Long Island everything thinks you have got to be r or d as well (we can run on more than one line here).

    I am a libertarian.

  15. Krzysztof Lesiak Krzysztof Lesiak January 23, 2013

GREAT news!! Good luck to Gigi, it would be awesome if she won, I don’t think the LP has had a state legislator since Steve Valliacourt (butchered that last name) in New Hampshire in 2000.

  16. Gigi Bowman Gigi Bowman January 23, 2013

Mark, you do realize this is a 2014 run, right? Michael McDermott is in the same district and we’ll run together. Also, we’ll be able to collect signatures for Governor as well. It’s all good 🙂 We have a plan!

  17. Wes Benedict Wes Benedict January 23, 2013

Great news! (I’m assuming she’s seeking the Libertarian Party nomination.)

  18. Thomas Hill Thomas Hill January 23, 2013

Wonderful news, Gigi! Looking forward to helping in any way I can!

Keep us posted, Gigi, about events that come up in the campaign. I have a feeling that 2014 will be here very quickly!

  20. Mark Axinn Mark Axinn January 21, 2013

As LPNY Chair, I am delighted to have one of my hardest-working members throw her hat into the ring.

Gigi will need money and help petitioning her way on to the ballot in 2014. The requirement for State Senate is 2700 valid signatures from registered voters in her district, which means we need at least 4000 to overcome any possible challenge from established parties. The petitioning period is five weeks long in the middle of the summer. Gigi will need to start raising funds now for that effort.

She will be a terrific candidate.

  21. George Whitfield George Whitfield January 21, 2013

Best wishes to Gigi Bowman. She has been a constant activist for liberty and peace.

  22. Wiseburn Wiseburn January 21, 2013

What [party] lines will Gigi be going for ? I would hope more than just one.

  23. Steven Wilson Steven Wilson January 21, 2013

Her run should be interesting to test her theories that she has written about. Being a candidate and not the one behind the curtain she also test her theories of how to run.

I have always respected her passion and drive. She does not compromise. Good luck to her. Peace.

  24. January 21, 2013

yeah, I agree Be Rational, I did not word that correctly. I don’t mind admitting that I wrote that quickly and could use some help rewording it. Thank you 🙂

“… our monetary policies which are causing deflation … ” ???

  26. johnO johnO January 21, 2013

What parties are opposing her? The usual D’s and R’s?
