UNITED UTAH BACKS MCMULLIN: Party members voted 46-3 in favor of endorsing McMullin, making this the first time the party, which was established in 2017, has endorsed a candidate who is not one of its members. The party was established by both Republicans and Democrats who thought their parties were moving too far from the center.
“The executive committee is excited about Evan McMullin and we believe that his practical, nonpartisan approach is consistent with the values of the United Utah Party,” said United Hillary Stirling, chairwoman of the United Utah Party.
A NEW FAIR DEAL PARTY: Leaders with the New York Democratic Party are strongly considering a new third party as a fusion option for candidates. Albany Democratic Party Committee Chairman Jacob Crawford says he’s been a part of the discussion about the potential third party.
“The Fair Deal Party is a plan that’s been put forward by some of the leaders of the state Democratic party, the concept is to offer opportunity for Democrats across New York State to have a second opportunity to have their name on the ballot,” Crawford said.
The party may weaken the position of the more independent-minded Working Families Party, which often (but not always) cross-endorses Democrats.
