Independent Party of Delaware Nominates Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Nicole Shanahan for 2024 Presidential Race

The Kennedy campaign announced on Tuesday that it will appear on the Delaware ballot through the support and nomination of the Independent Party of Delaware. The ticket previously attempted to seek ballot access through its We the People Party effort.

According to a press release on the Kennedy campaign’s website, the Kennedy-Shanahan ticket was recently nominated by the Independent Party of Delaware. However, it did not specify when the nomination officially occurred. In the release, Independent Party of Delaware Secretary-General Wolf von Baumgart referred to the nomination of Kennedy as a “clear national alternative to polarized two-party politics as usual.”

Additionally, the campaign states that the party already filed the necessary documents with the state to put the Kennedy-Shanahan ticket on the ballot.

The nomination of Kennedy and Shanahan marks the third time the party has fielded a presidential ticket and the first time since 2008 when it nominated then-independent Ralph Nader. Alongside the Kennedy-Shanahan ticket, the party is also endorsing former Delaware state senator Michael Katz for the United States Senate this election cycle.

The Independent Party of Delaware has semi-frequently fielded local and state candidates since it was first organized in 2000. According to its website, the party operates solely within the state and is not affiliated with any national organization.

With thanks to Richard Winger of Ballot Access News for initially reporting on the nomination.
