The presidential campaign of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has seen a decline in voter support following the entrance of Vice President Kamala Harris in the Democratic Party presidential primaries, The Hill reported on Wednesday.
According to The Hill, President Joe Biden’s exit and Harris’s subsequent entry have allegedly contributed to the decline, along with the Kennedy campaign’s response, which is described as “clunky” in adapting to the change. The article suggests that Harris likely regained some Democrat support lost to Kennedy initially as a result of the Biden campaign’s weak campaign performance. Furthermore, The Hill references three polls showing an overall decrease in voter supporter when compared to previous polling numbers.
“A Wall Street Journal poll placed Kennedy at 4 percent, while a New York Times/ Siena College poll had him at 5 percent. He inched up 1 point in a Quinnipiac University survey to 6 percent — all lower than what he’s enjoyed in the past,” The Hill reported.
However, Kennedy has disputed claims that he’s losing support, stating in a recent interview with CBS News’ The Takeout that the level of enthusiasm for his campaign “has increased dramatically” since Harris entered the race.
“Our volunteer engagement is up; we already have 100,000 volunteers and we are getting more every day,” Kennedy said during the interview. “Our visits to our homepage are up 1000%, and we are getting similar engagement on YouTube, on X, on TikTok. Our contributions are up, and I’m told that the biggest song on iTunes this month is ‘Bobby Kennedy for President,’ and that’s all happening since President Biden’s withdrawal.”
The Kennedy campaign is also said to be experiencing “cash woes and ballot-access concerns,” with The Hill noting in the same article that the campaign spent more than it took in during the past month and is carrying a “debt of approximately $3 million.” According to FEC filings, the Kennedy campaign is $3,071,865 in debt as of the end of June.
However, The Hill also acknowledges the Joint Fundraising Committee between the Kennedy campaign and the Libertarian National Committee, which will allow Kennedy supporters to make higher donations intended to bolster the candidate due to the Libertarian National Committee being an FEC-recognized national party committee. The Kennedy campaign announced that partnership this past month, although several members of the Libertarian National Committee have pushed back on how it was enacted.

Compare what Kennedy offers in terms of a competing vision versus Trump and Harris to how previous alternative candidates such as Ralph Nader, Gary Johnson, and Ross Perot contrasted with the establishment party nominees. There’s some tinfoil hat stuff from RFK but no significantly different approach to governing. As long as it was two old guys who already had their turn, there was something to the idea that a different person who was not quite as old(but still old!) but otherwise not radically different could capture a portion of the electorate. With one of the geezers out most of what voters saw as setting RFK apart has evaporated.

Second, will RFK Jr actually get that much money from it?
Third, until his next round of federal numbers reporting deadlines hit, will he lie about it, like Winger reported at BAN him lying about getting the most signatures of any independent candidate in history?
Not only would I trust the Hill, the NYT and Quinnipac even less regarding Kennedy’s popularity, than the necessarily biased Kennedy himself, on principle. But it also simply doesn’t make sense that Kamala Harris who has always been even more unpopular than Biden, even in their own party, would draw more support than Biden.
On the contrary, Democrats who voted for Biden in the primary are vocally angry that their vote is being tossed aside, antisemitic Democrats aren’t happy with Harris because she isn’t sufficiently antisemitic, Obama apparently wanted Mark Kelly to be nominated and only very reluctant gave Harris a half-hearted endorsement when forced to.
Harris has far less support than even Biden had following the CNN debate. She’s certainly not regaining more Democrat support than she is losing, let alone from only Kennedy.
