The Green Party of California’s General Assembly will convene remotely this weekend to discuss next year’s operating budget, deliberate on several proposed platform changes, and hear from Dr. Butch Ware, the party’s recently announced gubernatorial candidate and 2024 vice-presidential nominee.
The assembly will meet over Zoom on Saturday the 23rd. Delegates to the assembly are selected by active county affiliates, and are based on total party membership in each county. According to a draft agenda published by the party, delegates this assembly will consider adopting a proposed $17,500 operating budget for 2025, elect a new state party treasurer, and potentially make changes to the Green Party of California platform.
Proposed platform changes include adopting a new plank regarding reparations for the descendants of emancipated Black Americans and revising the Human Rights and Civil Liberties plank to emphasize accountability for systemic injustice and condemnation of white supremacy. Additionally, delegates will consider amending the Affirmative Action plank to include stronger legal accountability for systemic discrimination and enhanced inclusion of the practice in education, employment, and housing.
The assembly will also consider implementing a permanent rule change aligning the Green Party of California’s Rules and Procedures for submitting presidential delegate slates with California’s presidential primary schedule. The current rules give the party 60 days before the March primary to submit delegate and alternate delegate names. The proposed change would align the deadline with the one set by the Delegate Selection Committee during presidential election cycles.
Notably, the assembly previously approved a one-time change to accommodate the 2024 delegate slate.
Additionally, Dr. Butch Ware, the Green Party’s most recent vice-presidential nominee, will address the General Assembly to discuss his planned 2026 gubernatorial bid and how the party can best support his campaign. Ware announced earlier this month that he intends to run for Governor of California as a member of the Green Party, though he initially disclosed the news in September.
LOL That would be great way to throw the cat amongst the pigeons!
But instead of giving the money to black people in their greedy, totalitarian party, they should give the money to actual black victims of neoliberal nonsense, e.g. all those black business owners who had their businesses destroyed by BLM and covid.

Also, since I always give the Green Party a (deservedly!) hard time, it’s only fair to also give them credit for organizing this assembly meeting online instead of in person, thereby saving net emissions. However, I immediately have to qualify that slight praise by pointing out that they are choosing to do so using chicom spyware…
No… You have to think like a Green… Green as in green money that the government prints that nobody really worries about. To them, reparations only come from the government. If it comes from their pocket, then that is theft.
Of course, what they don’t realize is that the government paying reparations is eventually coming out of everyone’s pocket, including the pockets of the people they are giving the money to.
If it really is to be proper reparations, then they need to identify all of the families of the people who owned slaves, or dealt in the slave trade in any manner. Confiscate the funds from them. Easily half of the people in this country come from families that were not even in the United States in the mid 1800s or earlier. And of those that were, some fought to keep slaves, and some fought to free them. Not everyone in this country owned a slave or profited from them.
I think the Green Party should set an example. Let the process of reparations start with them. They should pass a rule that, at every in-person meeting, every white person must pay every black person $100. That should continue at every meeting until every black person in the party agrees that they have been fully compensated. Failing to demonstrate a willingness to pay reparations themselves should be considered proof that their call for reparations to black people are just empty words.
Greens do not have to wait for legislation to make reparations happen. They can start immediately just by handing out hundred dollar bills to random black people on the street.
