Forward Party Reflects on 2024, Sets Communications Goals for 2025

Matt Shinners, Chief Strategy and Operations Officer of the Forward Party and overseer of its communications operations, reflected on the 2024 election cycle and outlined the party’s goals for 2025 in an email to members this week. Shinners detailed plans by the party to focus on engaging supporters more online and strengthening relationships with the media.

In the email sent Wednesday, Shinners highlighted several key takeaways from the past year and detailed specific strategies the party intends to take moving forward. Reflecting on 2024, he praised the Forward Party’s content production efforts, noting regular candidate endorsement announcements and the creation of slates designed to appeal to voters seeking information on specific geographies, candidate backgrounds, and election races. Shinners also mentioned that the party streamlined its approval process to produce materials more efficiently and launched several grassroots funding campaigns. Additionally, he pointed out the party’s revamped website, which now includes an updated values section developed collaboratively with input from various state teams.

Looking ahead, Shinners outlined plans to prioritize content that further showcases Forward volunteers, state leads, and candidates—particularly video content—which he noted performed better than that based around “abstract reform concepts.” He also described a shift in the party’s social media strategy from being primarily informational to focusing more on encouraging user interaction. This includes producing more interactive polls and questions, as well as conversation-starting content. To bolster these efforts, the Forward Party intends to create additional branded web templates for both internal and external use.

Additional future projects specifically mentioned by Shinners include building stronger relationships with members of the press to pitch more stories, enabling members to more easily produce content that will be directly featured by the party, conducting regular supporter surveys, and introducing a new logo and merchandise. He also shared plans to produce a list of the party’s top ten member-submitted suggestions, which will be presented later this month.
