Ben Weir, the Region 6 Alternate on the Libertarian National Committee, announced his resignation on Thursday in an email to Committee members. Elected during last year’s national convention, Weir cited shifting priorities and concerns about the Committee’s direction as reasons for stepping down.
In his email, Weir announced his decision to step down “effective immediately,” attributing his resignation to “recent events” that prompted reflection on the Committee’s direction under Chair Angela McArdle’s leadership. He also noted his priorities have shifted since becoming a father and shared plans to focus on his family and his nonprofit, Punks For Liberty, which promotes libertarian and anti-censorship values within the music scene.
Weir expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work with other Committee members, adding that he looks forward to continuing his support of the liberty movement in new ways. The full text of his resignation email, as seen by IPR, can be read below:
Members of the Libertarian National Committee,
I am writing to formally resign from my position as the Region 6 Alternate on the LNC effective immediately.
This decision has not come easily, as my time serving on the Committee has been both rewarding and enlightening. However, recent events have led me to reflect deeply on the trajectory of this body under the unilateral direction of the current Chair. As stewards of liberty, I believe we must hold ourselves to the highest standards of integrity and transparency to earn the trust of those we represent. I am working on upholding these values better as well.
Additionally, my priorities have shifted as I recently became a father and will be dedicating more of my time and energy to my family. I also plan to focus on growing my non-profit organization, Punks For Liberty, which aims to promote the principles of liberty, anti-censorship, and individual freedom in the music scene and beyond.
I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked alongside so many dedicated and principled individuals. I remain hopeful that the Committee will rise to meet the challenges ahead with honesty and accountability.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve. I look forward to supporting the liberty movement in other ways and seeing the Committee embrace the principles that unite us. God bless!
In Liberty,
Ben Weir
Region 6 Alternate
