Libertarian Party Begins Delegate Allocation Process for 2026

The Libertarian National Committee has started the delegate allocation process for the 2026 Libertarian National Convention, with Secretary Caryn Ann Harlos issuing information this week to state chairs outlining the process and key deadlines.

In a formal notice, Harlos announced that she reached out to each state party chair regarding allocations based on individual state presidential vote totals. She said that calculations will use data from the Federal Election Commission’s official 2024 presidential election results in determining accurate totals.

According to the LNC Policy Manual, the national secretary must provide each affiliate party with proposed presidential vote totals by the last day of April in the year following a presidential race. Affiliates have until the end of May to request modifications or make challenges to those totals, after which final delegate allocations must be distributed by the end of July.

The allocation process also accounts for party membership levels. Under the full process, each affiliate is entitled to at least one delegate, with additional spots assigned based on a combination of both its sustaining membership and votes cast for the party’s most recent presidential nominee. The deadline for membership calculations is October 31, with Harlos indicating she would later follow up with state affiliates as the deadline approaches.

In the 2024 presidential election, the Libertarian Party’s ticket of Chase Oliver and Mike ter Maat received 650,126 total votes. The five states with the highest raw vote totals were Texas (68,557), California (66,662), Pennsylvania (33,318), Florida (31,972), and Ohio (28,200). According to figures in the January membership report, California, Texas, Florida, and Pennsylvania are also the four largest in terms of sustaining national members, with New York being the fifth.

The 2026 Libertarian National Convention will take place next May at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids, Michigan. While specific details have yet to be announced, the party has begun accepting theme submissions from members, putting out a request for bold, unifying, and “unmistakably Libertarian” ideas.

“delegates assigned based on […] votes cast for the party’s most recent nominee”

And since there is zero interest in addressing the irregularities of the 2024 nominating convention, you know what that means…

“The 2026 Libertarian National Convention will take place next May at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids, Michigan”

But of course. Because the LP has so much excess funding to burn. Don’t worry though, I’m sure Soros or whoever will pay for the “desirable” activists to be in attendance.

“seeking bold, unifying, and ‘unmistakably Libertarian’ ideas”

Uh-huh. I’m sure they are. In before they announce the theme “Please tread on us and especially on any of our children we may have overlooked murdering”.
